Thank you for the info. I'm another one who looks. Wonders why someone is doing certain things. I've read reread alot of articles. Have Herb Adam's book on 'Chassis Engineering'. On my 73 F drag car I modified the front spring perches according to Herbs ideas trying to increase anti squat.

Seriously with 3.54:1, the OD allows my combo to do 2500 @75, but the standing pull from 65 to 90+ mph is like the pull of a 1/4 mile run, actually the butt and other cognisant cars make it compelling to suggest;
If you got a 455 in a road race, you might want to reach for an OD gear shift.

Yes you know the mind thinks I can. Taking that 74 shell and using it for a road race car using Herbs ideas. Problem $$$$ for the needed dry sump(I just think it is insurance but probably not needed),then the best brakes(when i was young didnt think much about them other than they are there), then the engine best parts$$$$. So car body may go down the road. I have the original 74SD TA, the put together 73 SD drag car,a 10k 67 400 4spd ,4.33,RA. Firebird. And my sitting 63 Lemans,(326 3spd long gone) project. 57 olds,400 m40. At 75 I'm seriously thinking selling the shell.

Herb Adams and Tom Nell did stuff for reasons. PERIOD.
They installed a Cheater oil pan/ Dry Sump Tank/and Camshaft Driven Oil Pump in the engine and F-body. If you have never had any road race track time on a vehicle ), your money might be better spent on your other "collection" vehicles. The Vega/Astre body would not be my 1st choice for that adventure. It's been awhile since the last update. Engine and transmission are finally in the car. Wilwood manual brakes are installed, plumbed and bled. I had an adapter plate made to solve the problem of the missing accessory mount hole on the hi-port heads. Next step is wiring and plumbing. Then build a custom air filter housing for the shaker scoop.

Nice, that missing bolt on High Ports can kinda be a issue. I wish they had it in.
I am using the stock alternator adapter like you are. What I did was drill and tap a hole in my 3/8" thick elephant ears to get it done. I wonder why KRE deleted it. |

Looks good Eric. I noticed you have a heater hose block off cap on the timing cover. Not sure if you have a use for that fitting but if not it can be tapped for a 3/8 pipe plug.

The Firebird is finally on the road today. Open headers so all the neighbors could experience it with me. This thing is rowdy! Gobs of torque, even off idle.
It still needs work...exhaust system, parking brake cables, front alignment, adjust front ride height up a little. It's up on the lift now. Eric
