That's hard to recover.

I don't see why people think it's work to vett a car.
He spent more time on fudged paint readings than anything.

Why does the commentors think this guy was helpful? He knew absolutely nothing about his car. Did anyone prove mileage? I'm positive it wasn't under 19K, but not positive that's the original cluster. So many things messed with in that interior. Looking at the front TRANS AM decals and paint shine indicated repaint. I'm going to have to order that model paint thickness scanner and read mine.

One of mine was MIA (passenger side)

On the driver side it had one about like on the Red SD car - maybe brass.
Wings coming in from the outside to the center - with a small bolt to expand it.
The length of the bolt had rubbed the inside of outer quarter and a small pimple/blister was starting directly where the bolt length went against it.

Wish I had paid attention and removed it long before.
The pimple was never there until the car had been stored for quite a while.

I did take it out when I saw the defect.
Gave it to Yousseff and told him what it was.

I was more curious about the general area around his plugs on the Red SD, not the plugs themself.

112,000 miles in 1991 with another 6,000 since then - I can buy that.
Probably some repainting on the flares and front spoiler again afterwards of the resto.
Maybe more - possibly endura too if everything was done prior at 100,000 miles.

Steve covered the replacement/repo front valance so that is known.

I don't think the plug in mine was original. It fit but was a complex goofy piece.
He must have removed the originals for a flush (and ruined them) and found the crazy plugs to replace them. And the passenger side didn't hold.

The PS is a plug, like this pictured 1974 PS plug.
I don't know what's in the DS. Maybe some kind of cover or replacement piece.

Your question made me think there was something special and when I saw that disc, I'd thought I'd ask.

Yeh I think the full ones you posted , and the ones in the Red 73 , are originals.
Maybe galvanized or plated steel.

The one out of my car was brass or something non-corrosive
With a small bolt and a bracket.
Owner was a mechanical engineer , maybe over-thought the replacements.
A rubber plug would have probably worked better.

My guess is he removed them periodically and flushed out the drop offs.
Was very meticulous about the car.
Car didn't have a speck of rust anywhere.
Not even around the back glass or windshield.
Until that pimple started

Those pictures I linked on the auction (with empty holes) were of a 74 SD
Carpet tag and dash date pictures from same car too.
It had 90k miles on it.

I really think someone very cunning swapped the carpet tag onto a new carpet.
It's just staples holding them and they could be transfered by a sharp individual.
But it was a good sample pic.

FYI, repop plugs are available from Ames. I bought a set about five years ago and remember being happy with the quality at the time.

I wonder if the reproduction trunk drops come with the proper hole for them.

Cool that they have those plugs.

The holes are punched in the repop trunk extensions, but I can't confirm the fitment of the plugs.

The one I just bought for my 70 only has one hole. Other hole must be drilled.

I went and purchased the same paint unit as the seller.
On my low mileage car, I measured 6.0 mils, which is 154 um and 0.15 mm.
On my repaint car, it was approx 15.0 mils.
Measured using standards and it was a little over.

If you are at Indy -
and have a chance to peek at the Gold 65 GTO with Hurst wheels
and the White 65 GTO with 4spd AC
Would be interested how they check out..

Trying to persuade a friend on one of those two.
