Pontiacs do not have quirky timing issues, it’s just that some builders or there shop help do not understand that on a Pontiac the drivers side bank of cylinders is in front of the passenger side bank, and also that the rotor spins the other way from a SBC or BBC motor.
Please note that for future reference that 180 degrees out means that number 6 will be at TDC, not number 8 as you posted. This can save you a lot of troubleshooting woes possibly! To double check that your at or very near to number 1 TDC you do not really need any tools, just your eyes. When 1 is at TDC on the compression stroke the exh valve on number 6 will be open some depending on the Cam , so that exh rocker will have no slop to it.

OK, bumped up the timing to +3-degrees. Runs a hell of a lot better and the hot-start weird tiny knock is gone.
