Hello Charles, I am getting excited as you are about hearing Don's engine with his heads and intake on it. I am currently building my engine with Don's heads and intake on it. What size engine are you planning on building or updating with Don's Ram Air V heads and intake?

Charles, it sounds like your 468 ci engine will like them. You mentioned you want to build up an MR-1 Block, funny that is what I am using, an MR-1A (aluminum) block, and making a 93 octane Pump Gas engine.

Nothing yet JC, but my brain is twisting with different idea's though LOL. I have several different platforms that I want to experiment with from a single throttle body in the center of the plenum to individual runners like a Kinsler FI set up. I really like the intake set up that Throttle performance used in the EMC. That platform can be tuned to any application and it looks really cool too.

Dons DCI RA-5 heads and intake from a similar angle. Both look close and should clear with room for an air cleaner.

A cam is not the problem I have several and can get one made in a week or less. So if someone has a short block that is ready to run I have cylinder heads just give me a call. The problem I have is time. I only have myself and one other full time guy here and my shop is very busy all the time. I only have so many hours in a day that I get to work on my projects if at all some days. So believe me!!! No one wants to see an engine run more than me with a set of my heads. On top of all the customer projects I am also doing all the R&D for my heads and intakes too. I am also developing another new cylinder head that's been on the drawing board now for over a year. I do like to eat and sleep once in awhile LOL. If I was smart (HMMM) maybe I should say the heck with developing new products for everyone else and worry about my own race program. Sorry about the rant, but until you have done this at the level I am doing it. You cannot even begin to understand the amount of time it takes to do it.
To give everyone a small glimpse and I mean small into what I am dealing with at every turn of this project. I mocked up my short block last week to check piston to valve and the valve reliefs are in the wrong locations. Now I don't know how that can be especially when I sent a cad file with a screen shot and locations clearly marked, but it happens. So now that little road block needs fixed before I can move on. When designing something from scratch every little detail needs to be scrutinized. Just ask GM, FORD, And Chrysler. They have several hundred if not several thousand people working on one cars design and it still takes years. So please have patients with this project. I could rush it all together and call it done and let everyone else do my R&D LOL.

I wonder how many people here on Ames performance Engineering would actually buy Don's version of the factory Ram Air V head casting #44 if it performed as good as the factory as cast head flowed roughly 325 cfm? Seeing that Don has changed the valve angle to 10 degrees from the factory 14 degrees, and his street head as cast has a 2.20 intake valve and the factory had 2.19. My Ram Air V head from DCI, has a 2.32 intake valve, as an example of where some of you can go or larger, just ask Don. Also, the intake port approx. 1.5 inches, and exhaust port about .5 inches have been raised to help the flow in and out of the cylinder. That being said Don also has about .750 deck thickness as well. Really if you start to look at a the reasons to purchase a set of Don's Ram Air V heads, it is pretty obvious, that UNLESS you are looking for the performance of the Factory Ram Air V head and all of it's compromises, Don's DCI Ram Air V is the only logical choice. I for one have Chris Uratchko, designing and assembling my engine. That being said when he said that DCI's Ram Air V is Pontiac's version of a Ford Pro King head I was sold. Do I need to see if Don's engine performs well??? NO!! When you truly understand Valve size for a given engine requirements and also understand the cross sectional area that it takes to make the Horsepower, it is not about what one engine made, is about the casting and the design that when INTO it that really makes a great cylinder head. I will be very happy with the approx. 850 hp that my DCI headed pump gas Ram Air V engine will make and scare the hell out of me in my stock looking 1968 Ram Air GTO. So what kind of performance are you looking for before you purchase your own set of a modern version of the Fantasy Ram Air V heads????
