looks great, could use some gloss though and a hoodscoop grille insert

wheels look nice, usually gets a spot on stangs and the retro camaro, but it looks quite nice on a bird too

Yes, 14" in the pic.
...and yes, it does have only 1 sport mirror.
I'm putting on some F60-15 Firestone Wide Ovals on my 15" Rally II's, I want to try them, not sure how the handling/ride is compared to radials.
I won't be changing the look of the car at all, no rear spoiler, just new paint & interior ...but I do want at least an aluminum headed 455 in the near future, if the RA-V doesn't work out. I want something different with this one so a RA-V would have that cool factor I'm after.

The wide ovals wont compare to those radials. You got the best riding tires right there however the ovals look much better. IMO

My 72 had those bumper guards as well.

these last 2 birds look great, I especially like that flat blue paint on the one before last

Love those bumper guards too ! Helps complete the rear end in my opinion. I always wanted to add them but since the cars never had them and I have no docs to say otherwise its not going to happen.

I heard that "matte" blue was the new matte black, so I'm on the bleeding edge of a trend, by accident. I just don't have the $$$ to go back to the correct Lucerne Blue at this time.

Hood scoops will be opened up, someday, I have Norwood's recreations already.

Rear bumper guards became an option for 1971 production roughly mid production. The earliest PHS I have for one so optioned is 1N116166, exported to Canada 2/25/71.

The Jan. 4th '71 printing of the Dealer Pocket Price Guide has rear guards shown available then.

My prior '73 had the bumper guards.
Back in '90, on a sunny weekday afternoon I was stopped at a redlight, and watched in my rear view mirror as an idiot (likely high) not pay attention and rear end me (though he was finally braking at the end).

His "friends" car, i.e. he doesn't have the insurance papers or registration with him of course ( '78-'82 G-body, think it was a Monte Carlo, POS) had bumper, front valence, grill and radiator damage. My car (also a POS), you couldn't tell so easily that the bumper had been hit, but his car submarined and bent the rear lower valence up and somehow the rear fiberglass panel was cracked.
The photos show other damage (hit while parked) and years of not-so-benign neglect in Michigan winters. Of course, in a no-fault insurance state, the car was totaled. I bought it back, drove it three more years, then let it sit for a long time. Sold it in 2003, and a local guy fixed it up.

To think, I had always wanted to take the bumper guards off, but never got around to it.

Here's another 72 with bumper guards. I almost have my reverse rake fixed. Installed some low-mile WS6 rear springs to get the sag out of the rear. Now I just have to drop the front a bit. All that iron and steel that I removed up front and replaced with aluminum has it sitting a bit high.

Car is looking good, John. Ever get that 3.23 rear installed? If so, was it a noticeable improvement?

Thanks James. I did get the rear axle installed along with the springs. Those springs are what I referred to in my last post that helped with the sagging rear. The 3.23s did make quite a difference, and it's really nice to have posi now. I really wish I had picked up one of those shakers from you when I was there. I wanted to get one cut out for my 78; I figured I would've been able to find a decent one already cut out by now. I hate to cut a nice unopened shaker but if I don't find a cut one soon, I may end up buying a good one to open up.

Thanks. I'm torn on what to do when I repaint this car. It's currently original paint with the exception of the nose and front valance. It still looks good but it is getting time to think about a repaint. I really wanted blue and love the looks of the cars in the blue threads we've been seeing. However, when I look at the pics like I just took, it's hard not to keep it the original color.
