Would you buy the New GTO if they changed the styling?

It's really not apples to apples when you compare the development of the new GTO to the new Mustang with regards to their individual success or failure....even thou their both in the performance segment.

Well there's no GTO being shown in Chicago....GM was building a G8 concept that is NOT being shown now, but the G8 production will be.

The 07 GMC Acadia is the nicest vehicle I've ever owned, and probably the nicest I've ever driven. It is an example of what GM can do right.

GMC Acadia? Just wondering what kind of vehicle that is, as I have never heard of it before and I was a sales manager at a GMC store from 99-03.

Small SUV / Crossover / Truck / Car just about covers it depending on what reference you look at it. It really came out of nowhere last year...

I always have said that anything sold as a "Pontiac GTO" needs to have some distinctive links to honor the Pontiac heritage (Dodge even put a hockey stick stripe and a wing on a TRUCK, and called it Datona, fer cripes sake!). So GM screwed the pooch and brought over the jellybean as a GTO and pissed off a bunch of the traditionalists, while pretty much every one else in the world STILL doesn't know what the car is. This does not take away from the fact that it is a fine automobile that would be perfectly acceptable in this market with 300 HP - except for those unfortunate three little letters. But the letters do come off with a hair dryer and dental floss, and the car has 400 HP! To those continuing to complain about the lack of style... I want to ask, would you give up 100 HP for some "style", how about 1 less gear in the transmission? Well that is what the Mustang buyers do.

We are performance people here, aren't we? There is a relatively cheap performance offering from GM that is undeniably an ass kicking car... who gives a damn what it is called or looks like? I think it's funny that so many make fun of the "all show and no go" ricer crowd, yet many of you are turning your noses up at this low 13 second car because of how it looks, while embracing the slug Mustang for the SAME reason.

Look, it was a marketing disaster, but that’s over now. But the cars are still sitting on dealer’s lots. I suggest people forget about words like “icon” or “legend” or “retro”… or for that matter “resale”. Just buy one and drive it like you stole it. Just like the old days.

I will bend to the point that the interior was nice and would seat 4 people like the original gto .It fit me like a glove the 6 speed was wild the auto was fun . If they had done what ford did with the stang I would have done everything in my power to buy one. when they get into the affordable price range I stll might buy one but I'm more in love with the t bird it's not a hot rod but I would park a new one next to my 56 any day of the week

If it were re-styled, I'd consider one. If I liked the re-styling of course.

Many folks (like me) feel the 04'-06' thing is much less than appealing. Every time I see one, I have a sense of disapointment. It just looks bland (to me).

I want a car that I look at through the window or sitting in the garage and enjoy the looks. The 04'-06' doesn't do that for me.

I'm sorry but any name other than GTO would have been stupid, it fit the mold much to well not to. Let's not forget the Monaro had a GTO version so would have been silly not to. A couple years later and they may have had G7 (with a LS7?!) or GXP option but at the time, no question in my mind GTO was right. And I don't think the name hindered or helped really in any way.

What mold was that exactly? It's not even a Pontiac, let alone a Pontiac GTO. Sorry, I could not disagree with you more on this point. Very few people know what a Pontiac GTO is, and Lutz drove all of them away by saying this car wasn't for them. So at the very least, the GTO name pissed off a lot of people who would otherwise have checked the car out. I know, I was one of them.

Mold = GM, V8, RWD, 2+2, Midsize car that already had a GTO option package.

Any other name would have been just ridiculous.

Call me a stickler for minor details, but I guess I just require a Pontiac GTO to be built by, Oh I don't know... PONTIAC!??

But the important thing is, it works in your head.

BTW, since when has the Pontiac GTO been a 2+2? All my real GTOs were 5 passenger vehicles. Firebirds and Mustangs are 2+2 configuration, not the A bodies.

Simple, the 04-06 "GTO" was built entirely by Holden workers in a Holden plant, on a continent on the other side of the world. This manufacturing line was not even exclusive to the "GTO", it also concurrently spit out Chevrolet, Vauxhal and Holden versions of the same car. There is nothing Pontiac about the car we got. I'm guessing even the red arrowheads were applied by people who's paycheck says GMH, rather than PMD.

Remember the Honda Passport SUV of the 90's? Who built that vehicle? It was not Honda. Ever notice it looked EXACTLY like a Izusu? Sears and Robuck used to sell a car. Do you ever remember "Sears" auto plants anywhere? Who manufactured them? Ever notice they looked EXACTLY like a Henry J?
