I've had the Fluidampr for probably 8 years, quality piece and like someone mentioned, one solid piece. Worth the $415 IMO since there is more $$ at risk and nowaday's things are secretly made in China etc.

Two piece dampers only control harmonic in a certain rpm range, a fluid damper will cover the whole rpm range. The draw back with them is you can not hammer the motor when it is cold. You need to let the fluid in them come up to temperature and let the inner ring center itself, or you could fracture it and you will have problems if that happens. You can not beat the one piece outer shell, and the range it controls in the rpm band. They are money well spent if your gonna turn your hard earned cash over 6k.

I have a fluid damper and was going to sell it because of all the horror stories I have heard.

There were posts on here about how the fluid of the damper will settle in on spot if not ran and cause the motor to become out of balance tearing up bearings.

Wouldnt you just drill 3 new holes in the old pulley rather than drill and tap the balancer or am i missing something? I plan on buying a ATI balancer in the next few months.

I was worried about the dampner, but I will go ahead and use it if there are not any problems with them.

I used a moroso pully that the holes lined up on my ATI but I had to have some machine work done to it along with a spacer to align the grooves up.

I just found a Chevy pulley in the attic-57 Corvette single grove hi-perf application-lined up with my existing alt and stuff too. If you drill and tap an SFI, it will no longer be SFI approved. BTW

You couldn't pay me to use a Fluid Damper! My Chevy buddy's 468 with a Forged 4340 crank is now missing a snout! Literally shook it so hard it ripped off and ruined the engine because it jumped the t-chain teeth and ate the valves all at 6000rpm! He said afterwards that he thought something was wrong because he noticed some vibration but it was too late once we disassembled it you could tell all the fluid had sucked over to one side Oh And smashed the main bearings right out of it, Not trying To piss on anyones toes This is Just My Experience with them, , Do some research the infos out there, Have Fun with your viscous fluid Dampers! PS they are really made for Diesel Low RPM Apps!

Over 300 passes on my old motor with one, tore it down tonight. Was going to re ring and put new bearing in it, everything still looks like it did when it was assymbled. Still going to do it(don't know why). 3% leakdown, and 80 lbs oil pressure running thin oil. Dude had other problems if he broke the snout off, or like I said in a previouse post you have to let it come up to temp and let the ring center itself before you hammer on it. The damper did not break the snout off. their was something else wrong their. It would take a tremendouse amount of counter balance to break the snout off. More than what an out of balance neutral balance damper could produce. Their is only like .020 space between the inner ring and the outer cover of the balancer for the fluid, not much room for error.

I'll see if i can get pics from him, He only bought that Dang thing because the SFI sticker, The bearings looked like the crankshaft was doing the "wave" though the block, No other issues with Machine work or oiling was found, Type it up on a search engine You'll see and hear of more than this!

If by chance he broke the inner ring, it could go out of balance, but not by much. Sounds like finger pointing to me. A whole lot more would have to go wrong to do that sort of damage, over a period of time to boot. If I pulled into the burnout pit with a bad vibration, think I would make the run? NOT. A single run with a slightly out of balance damper is not going to do what you described. Something else was going on. Even with a broken inner ring it would still absorbe some of the harmonics. Unless it was totally shattered. Like I said, not much room for error.

When using an ATI w/ a stock pulley, just spin it where you have room to drill 3 holes and you are done. When using an aftermarket Chevy crank pulley, you probably will have to use a spacer. Mine needed .250".

Take a look what balancers $60,000+ Pro Mod motors run.

One more thing comes to mind, how much knock do you hear on a cold running diesel? They must absorbe some of those harmonics. Damn things sound like they are comming apart at idle.

I would have told him to shut it down Imediately if i had known it was vibrating, Supposedly the Fluid dampers work good on the Low RPM Diesels, Nascar just outlawed them and TCI Rattlers, run whatever ya want I'm just stating what i've personally seen, on the Flip side My Paps ran one for 3 years that was ok but when torn apart the Factory forged Crank "BBC" 7400 RPM was cracked in 6 places And i figure the crank would have let go if the Damper wasn't doing its job, so take it for what its worth I wouldn't run one But many have and still do without issue, ATI.Summit SFI, PowerBond,Romac seem to be the Best Bet right Now atleast to Me
