This is my 1972 Lemans that I will be cloning a GT Lemans with. I have a lot of work ahead of me but I got the best body guy and his son (carpool) helping me. I will try to update the thread as much as I can with updates.

I have found to clone a GT is a lot cheaper then the GTO. Plus they come with the same engine combos as the GTO's.

Quite a few lbs lighter too, though the 455HO was only avail in a '72 LeMans with the heavier T41 (endura nose) frontend.

71 Model is the way to go - all of the punch, but none of the fat.

71' & 72' have virtually the same 400 4bbl engine, main difference is part #'s. The HP difference is due to how they were rated. The plan for this car is a 400 4bbl with a 4 speed.

FYI: They all cost about the same to restore. Parts required vary in the equation, and in the end its "the labor of love"!
The 72 LeMans GT 400 4 speed is like the elusive WW4? FWIW: The 71 400 4 speed carb was a factory 825cfm and had a bit more torque/hp than the 72 as a whole package is what I remember between the two.

Core support is repaired as of today, and he stripped the hood yesterday. Have one more fender to strip, then it's on to the main body.

I cut the rust out of the deck lid yesterday, and gave the other fender a healthy dose of paint stripper. Family & work has kept Chris from working on the car. Figured I would lend a hand in my spare time and help him keep moving along with it.

That's what I keep telling him. He seems to not remember some of the rust buckets that my father and I have fixed. The best had to be a rusty 67' El Camino that a pine tree fell on. We were planning on parting it out, then researched and found it to be a matching # L79/M20 car. Lots of metal work, and a new roof later... it was good as new and sold for strong money.
