Tom,
Very glad to hear that you're on your way to recovery. I'll bet that you'll bounce back from that in no time. Stay strong my friend, it's just a little curve ball that life threw your way. Your way stronger than that..... Sincerely, Larry S.

All, regarding my left hand.
I do not wear arm restraints. My window net was up, which kept my upper arm contained. However, somehow, my left hand wound up, at some point, outside the cage and I assume was crushed between the cage and/or door/ground. Word to the wise, have your window net as wide as possible. It is there for a reason. Thanks

After surviving a 171 MPH crash and you are online telling us how to protect ourselves in a similar crash. Thank you! I'm sorry for your loss and injuries, hopefully you'll be back fully recovered soon. Take care Tom.

Tom, I checked my arm/window net length today. If I were to barrel roll, my hand/arm COULD make it's way out of the car. After what you went through, I will extend my window net, put in a poured seat and replace my outdated SFI roll bar padding for the 2017 season.... Just in case. Thanks

Not all situations are good but you can find the good in all situations.... Tom was very fortunate to have come out of this as well as he did... I lost a friend that crashed at over 250mph in a top alcohol car. Bobby Martindale. He stopped by my house on a Tuesday and died that Saturday in a qualifying run...its a dangerous sport. Tom offered some good advice that may help save the life of a racer on this board... Glad to see you are recovering..... I wish you and your family the best.

Welcome home Tom. Hope your recovery as full as possible.
Glad the car did it's job and protected you. Safety is always #1. When fellow OPDS racer Wayne Garrison destroyed his car at Mason Dixon last year the car did it's job too but Wayne suffered a bad hand injury. He apparently grabbed to upper hoop bar as car rolled several times and roof crushed his hand. I'm thinking arm restraints are a good idea. Get well Tom.

Thanks guys. Your replies really help.
The crash really put things in perspective for me, regarding life and family. We all love this sport, and things can go wrong. Hopefully my advice will help others.

Just getting caught up on PY board... wow, Tom, hated to see this, so glad you are still with us! Good luck on your recovery/rehab journey... the hands are tricky parts.. I had the tip of my finger reattached a few years ago, and you'd never know it now... it's a little numb, but I never thought I'd keep it...keep the faith and listen to the doctors!!

Hi guys,
Just testing the waters....as I am still recovering and healing. Looking for another car to race. I am trying to see if my old 73 Bird is available as well. The guy's name who bought it was Flint Poovey, out of Michigan or Indiana. That was in 2006. Looking for cars that are done, or at least almost done. Not looking for projects. Something along the lines of a Super Stocker. I am not in a hurry. I will wait until the perfect (for me) car comes along. PM me with any details or info. Thanks Tom

Tom, Thank God for protecting you through such a life altering event. Like you said we all love this sport and the reason we do it is because of the danger it presents. The Adrenalin rush keeps us wanting more like a drug. Once you have the addiction it's hard to kick the habit. Good luck with your recovery. It sounds like you are already headed to a speedy recovery. Half the battle is attitude !!!!!!
