44 here. Bought my first Pontiac at 18, a '67 Firebird from my mom. It was her daily driver for a few years but it drank too much gas for her. Still have the car, it's fairly rough to look at but fun to drive. I agree about driving them, a car being on the road makes up for most problems it might have.

As for me at 76, I have every intention of still chasing the 263 MPH record in F-blown-fuel lakester class with Pontiac power.

Outside the Pontiac world, I'm in awe of "The Greek"- Chris Karemesines (sp?)- still qualifying for NHRA top-fuel at age 90-something!

i'm currently 38. I started working on cars when i was 16. I bought my first Pontiac at 22, a 74 Grandville. the frame rotted and it almost killed me when one of the rear control arms let go of the frame, but i was hooked. I still have the block for a future build.

i'm currently driving my 79 Firebird daily. I've had it since 2005. Yes, it's rusting, but I love the car and putting the hurt on most newer cars always brings a smile to my face as I built it.

I'm a "young" 46 here… as in, I think I'm a lot younger than I am. I'm a builder and I can still climb up and down ladders and up through the rafters almost as good as I ever could. I still feel like a college kid… that is until I'm around actual college kids, and then I think "My God, they're young!" Note thats different than saying "My God, I'm old!

I hear a lot of you guys bitching about how expensive the hobby is these days. That its no longer for the "everyman". Think back to that time when it was an "everyman's" hobby. Back in the '70s and '80s guys were working on their cars in their driveways. Using chain hoists hanging off of homemade tripods to pull engines. Working all weekend on the car because they needed it to go to work on Monday. Many of the cars would be considered "ratty" by todays standards. Multi colored primer, mismatched wheels, etc.- but they were still badass! I remember several of these guys in my neighborhood when I was a kid.

There's no reason that someone today can't be a car guy on a budget. Sure, not in a sweet '69 Judge, but there are plenty of borderline "cool" cars that you can get into cheaply. You don't need to spend a fortune to have fun.

My son is 17 and his daily driver is a '77 Bonneville. He picked it up locally- only had 29,000 miles on it and he paid $2k for it. He's learning to handle the repairs and slowly making upgrades on it as he uses it as his daily driver. I could give him a "cooler" car- heck I've got a few spares , but I want him to learn to do it on his own and live within his means.

Being a car guy is a mindset, it's not about having a huge garage, the best tools or perfectly restored rare cars.

38 in just a few days. I agree with goatless, it's a mindset being into these type of cars. Not an easy or budget friendly hobby either. Age shouldn't matter as far as enthusiasm is concerned. My passion for Pontiacs is the same and more as time went on and more options have become available over the last 20 years since I've been into it. If you catch the bug early or later in life like some all that matters is you wrench on and drive the crap out of your own car, that's what this hobby is all about

I really enjoyed the late Jim Taylor's tri-power build/dyno test on a 421 there towards the end of the remaining Pontiac magazine. I think it was a 421....
