What company did that trans come from?

Yeah, you want the trans with the offset shifter tower, not the dog leg adapter

Sounds like someone messed up on the order?
Places like American Powertrain, Modern Driveline, and Silversport all will get the shifter in the correct location when ordered as such, they all just go about it in a different way.
I personally prefer American Powertrain and I like using their White Lightening shifter. The TK's have the option of putting the shifter in 2 locations fore and aft and the shifter itself has multiple positions it can be setup with making the whole deal extremely versatile. Then pick your stick, and I've never had a car I couldn't get the shifter in the stock location perfectly centered in the console. I've done A-bodies, F-bodies, vettes, Mustangs, never had to chop a thing, it's honestly very straight forward.

Tkx is in and now waiting on a dennys driveshaft which will be a few weeks I guess. Using the McLeod super street pro clutch and it has a noticeably lighter pedal than the centerforce I was using. Bought a small harbor freight trans jack which definitely helped since the car is only off the garage floor enough to move around slightly. 60 years old and I feel like I’ve done 1000 crunches getting up and down… under and out. Had to drop the headpipes to get it in there. I pray everything will work correctly because I’d hate to have to take it back out anytime soon. Even got the back up lights working. Trans was a little snug to the floor boards around the shifter tower/ bracket…..used the correct trans mount for these cars which is like 1 5/8” thick.

What shifter did you end up using? Looks like you were able to reuse the stock x-member?

The closest thing I found to looking like my original shifter was this retro round bar style … still a hurst handle. SST has one but doesn’t say hurst on it. It’s pretty close but I do think it was about an inch shorter than the original. Yes I was able to use the original cross member. I might of ground on it some in the past… I don’t remember. I don’t know why I would have but I don’t have another to compare it to. It was real fun getting it on the jack under the car. I would of asked my neighbor or son to come over to help but if I can get it I try not to bother other people. On the calculator it says the 2.87 first gear with my 3.31 rear is the same as my original Muncie with 4.33 rear gears. Sounds like 1st gear now will be pretty steep. Pic of my original shifter before removing.

For the shifter I wanted to know which shifter mechanism was used, not the handle. For an A-body, the handle mount needs to be offset to the side and back a little, did you use a White Lightning shifter or something else? Looks like whatever you used placed the handle in a perfect spot. Thanks for the info.

Oh…. Gotcha. Here’s what it looked like. Yes off center and back a little.
