I'd have to look.
I'm not sure I do, it would be buried in a lot of photos somewhere.

I have the magazines of his car somewhere also.

Finally made it to the track with my 55 gasser. There's a build thread down in the 61 and older forum.

Here i'm racing against a real 60's racer, 1956 Pontiac "Old Injun"

Seeing your '55 and that '56 paired off is flat out AWESOME!

How are your two cars set up and how do they run?

I had a buddy back in the day who had a '56, 2-dr sedan that was pure black. It ran real well on the street and blew off a lot of musclecars. It couldn't stay with a 396 Camaro or a good running GTO, but anything that wouldn't turn faster than the lower mid-14's he would embarrass. I think he cheated, though, I think he had a '57 347 in it. I never liked a 55 or 56 until I saw his. With bigger blackwall tires, some of the spoked mags and a little more ground clearance than stock, it was a real pretty car. It always seemed to me, though, that the doghouse was shorter than other Fifty-Fives or Sixes, yours included. More like a Chevy 210.

He didn't admit to the 347, but he did often talk about putting a '58, 370 in it, with his tri-power. I think that would have made a very interesting car.

Dave Sano's "Screamin' Insanity" Grand Am vs. Rocky Pirrone's "Screamin' Eagle" Firebird, taken last week at Epping. Sorry, both cars are Hemi powered.

Well the GTO is done! Took a little longer than I wanted too. The GTO was owned and raced by Jerry Burgderfer from Tiffin, Ohio. Andy Cardenas was the mechanic and sometimes drove. If you look at the post #594 that is them in one of the pictures standing in the garage.Sadly Jerry was killed in a plane crash Dec. 2009. I bought the car in 2007 and started to put the car back as raced. Jerry would stop by and see how the old GTO was coming and he always liked what was going on and had plenty of imput on how the car was finished not restored. The car is all orignial (Except engine bay) and is the way it was in the early 70s before the Ram Air 4 and Automatic was installed. The headers, intake and carb are what was on the car in the early 70s. I am the 3rd owner of the GTO and Jerry got the car in 1967 when he was 16. He started racing it 1969. Miller Pontiac in Fremont Ohio was the sponsor (also where the car was sold new). Miller paid for slicks and parts for cost and since Andy work there they could use the shop as needed. Andy also helped me with this GTO for the last four years. This GTO is part of the way it was back in the day on a local level. Hats of to the guys that built it and raced it. THANKS and ENJOY! Mark Sorry will only let me do one picture I am a dummy on the computer

Here are two more pictures. The Time slips and pit passes were under the carpet. That is all I have. Jerry had a flood in his basement in the early 80s and lost all pictures and paper work. But I still have the original owners manual and protect-o plate because his mom had it at her house! The second picture is a couple small items I have to do yet! THANKS! Mark

Reading this thread I saw your post. I assume this is the car you're asking about. It belonged to Barry Mehring and was destroyed in a fire that, if I remember correctly, also took his house. I think he later raced a dragster in one of the old "super quick" series.

I saw the car many times at the old track at Gateway, and have some pics of my own(these are from the oct. 89 issue of HPP) somewhere. You had to see this car in person to appreciate how nice a care it was---the attention to detail was amazing and it ran every bit as good as it looked---mid-high 9's depending on conditions.

One of my all time favorite Pontiacs.

Unhappy

Bob Maxey built Barry's motors and intake work. Before the car was burned up Barry ran some 9.40's. Pretty quick back then with all Iron under the hood.Yes he suffered a scary Alcohol fire in his garage while draining fuel out of his tank, and he had a trouble light close buy and somehow it ignited the alcohol fuel. The 68 was a beautiful race car.

That was 1962. If inflation averaged 5% annually since then, the $7,000 total cost would be $76,500 today- which would build you quite a lot of dragster.
