My first car was a 66 GTO for $150. No motor/trans. Solid roller in grey primer, nice black interior, good brakes, American TTs, etc. All I had to do was drop a motor and trans in it. A friend even gave me a 71 455 and TH400 out of his 69 Firebird.

I has dumb dreams of stupid wheel tubs and a B+M street scoop. I got as far as takingthe car apart, smoothing the firewall with fiberglass, and gutting the interior. Left it sitting in my friends garage. I was 15.

First driver was a 77 Formula with electric blue shag carpet for $50. Changed the water pump, painted it flat black and drove it around on studded snow tires for cool one-wheel sparky burnouts. The day after I traded it for a 73, the rear window popped out doing 75 on the NJ Turnpike. What a POS. Wish I saved the 800 QJ.

1978 Buick Park Avenue. Olds 403. I wanted a big old car, and this one was my friend's sister's old ride. She sold it to me for $500 when I was 16. I'm 19 now, still have it, but getting ready to sell once my 77 Formula is up and running.

When it was time to put her to rest I tried to blow the motor but I must say that old chevy motor wasnt budging so I parked it, sat a brick on the pedal but before it would blow my neighbors had a fit.

That was back in 1973 Damn IM getting old.

My first car was a 76 Cutlass Salon with T Tops. My grandfather owned a 77 Supreme so when the opportunity came up to buy a car like his but sportier, I took it. And like a stupid kid, painted SS stripes on it and then attempted to "Fix" the rust spots, which lead to spraying the entire car with red primer (out of a spray can).

I was a dumb kid that ruined a nice car.

My first was the beauty in the corner. My dad caught me smoking when I was 14 and told me if I quit he'd buy me a car. I was one lucky kid! Punkey was the first car we went to look at and I fell in love with it right away! It was stuck in park so they weren't asking much and my dad being a Pontiac guy had plenty extra trannys at home. It ended up not being the trans but of course we didn't find out until after we replaced it. I wish I could say it looks as good now as it did then, the pic is before I got my drivers license. But I was 16 and did some stupid kid things. A few dents and scrapes later it's still not in bad shape and is driveable. At least it will be again this weekend when I put it back on the road. It's been about 7 years since I drove it last so I can't wait to get my baby back. And I'm learning from my fathers mistakes, I will live in that car before I sell it!!!
P.S. I'm 32 years old now & I still don't smoke cause I'm afraid he'll take it away

My first car at age 17 was a 1967 Lemans sport hardtop coupe. With a 400ci/2 barrel rochester carb out of a 1969 Grandprix. I still have that car to this day. How many guys can say the same?

My first car was a Green 1968 Pontiac Tempest that was bought at auction for $145 + a $10.00 auction fee around 1985. It had small pine trees growing in the floorboards and when you looked at it at the right angle in the right light, you could see where it once said "Just Married" on the each side of it.

Ran like crap when I bought it. We found 3 bent pushrods, replaced them and it ran great then.

First car was a 71 Jeep CJ-5, 250 straight six with a 3 speed. To make it even more of a handling machine, we added a plow so I could plow our driveway as well as others (snowplowing in suburban NJ pays ridiculous amounts of money). Drove it for 4 years.

In college, bought a '72? Cadillac Calais monster in avocado green for $125 from some girl a year ahead of me. When I went to get it registered and insured, it would have taken $800 to get brakes, etc. fixed on it. Since this was up in New Hampshire, where you didn't need insurance, I didn't, and drove it around and used it to haul the bands equipment. When I graduated we left it in a farmer's "car garden" after removing the plates and VIN. Sorry.

'73 Fiat 124 Spider - cool convertible that needed a lot of work. Repaired cancer rust all over with mesh door screening and bondo (not a lot of Fiat parts back in the late 80's), sanded everything, and then had it painted dark forest green. Replaced convertible top. Took out all the wood inserts - dash, etc, sanded them down, and then stained and varnished them. Replaced mechanical fuel pump (mounted right on the manifold for guaranteed vapor lock) with an electrical one after getting vapor lock at the Lincoln Tunnel. Car was great but scale wise didn't fit me - looked a little like a clown car. Time and harsh NJ winters eventually did it in.

1961 Corvair Monza 2 door. The guy I bought it from had the motor rebuilt. When they started it it backfired and wouldn't restart it so they parked it. It sat for 1 year until I bought it for $50 bucks (1987). Got it home, put the plug wires in the right firing order, put some gas in it and it started right up. After adjusting the valves and new tires, I sold it for $200.

My first car was/is a 1971 Lemans Sport Convertible. I bought it when I was in High school for 1600 bucks. It was my daily driver through high school and my time in the Air Force. It's been the first car two of my three kids have ridden in, since I brought them home from the hospital in it. I've rebuild or replaced just about everything. I've owned it for nineteen years. Yes, it's the one in my sig. :-)

My first car was a 1967 Tempest (2 dr.) post bought when I was 16 in 1986 for $300. It was lindeen green, had the 326 with a deuce for a carb, a powerglide and a bench seat. I think AM radio capped off the options if I remember. No power steering and manual brakes.
I was 16, and not happy with it the way it was. It soon had rally wheels, a posi stolen from a rust old '66 goat, a rebuilt 400 and headers that leaked all the damn time and power steering and brakes, along with a TH350. But it sure was fun beating up on my buddy's small-block powered Jeepster.
For reasons that don't make sense now, I sold the car when I went to basic training for the National Guard.

paid $7k for it at the time. after doing a bit of research after the purchase i thought i was rooked. turns out time fixed that problem.

My first car was a '58 Star Chief 4-door, my next was a '64 Tempest Custom Coupe w/a 326, my next was a '61 Catalina Bubble top w/8 lugs and a built 389, I sold it in '71 and bought a VW beetle (what was I thinking?).
Flash forward a few (oh all right SEVERAL (like 29)) years and I got the bug again and built a '27 roadster on "A" rails with a 350 SBC. I am now finishing a chopped '29 A coupe w/a 400 Q-Jet and #16 heads and a TH350 pushing an Auburn posi 9" ford rear.
