Hope you are right on that one.Its ashame everyone involved with these blocks is having to do all this extra work.Better to be safe than sorry.GOOD LUCK with the hardness test.Plus you should sonic check the cylinders to see what the minimum wall thickness is.That might well tell you if this batch of blocks was OK.If your wall thickness is good than hopefully the hardness checks out as well.

Jim, can you look closer at Post number 98 pic number 3 at the bolt hole and bulkhead area?

Just a simple observation,so dont make anything of this, but most all the threads in OMT's block look a whole lot better than most any of those from the "fubar" block pics posted thus far.

His block's threads all look nice and clean,no obvious or visible signs of problems that I see, that would make me feel a little better, but I'd still get the block magged, sonic checked, and the material tested for piece of mind.

My first impressions are:

The Main Cap Outer Bolt holes need countersunk.
The webs appear fine. Optical illusion that was sited is creepy.
Overall appearance is fine.

good point screamingchief,
the first telltale sign would be thread deformation since thats where induced ksi stress loads would exhibit from continuous load due to bolt stretch. my opinion, thats where the system failure starts.

Tom - I see what you are talking about in the picture, but I didn't see it when looking at it. Regardless, I will still be taking the block apart and checking it more closely. It will also get the hardness tests.

His block looks far better than any of the other blocks to date but all we have seen in the past is failures.

Nothing too unusual when the short block was disassembled, but it has not yet been tested. I am trying to find soneone who can test the Brinell Hardness without having to break a chunk off of the block.

There are hand held hardness testers so don't ruin the block if not needed. How accurate are they? Good question.

Default don't need a chunk of block

Equotip type portable hardness testers are industry proven.
That said, correct indenter must be used, and a standard block of similar expected hardness is always a good idea. As I've read this thread, the resolution of these units is more than sufficient to differentiate between 'butter' and 35 KSI, and can be conversion to Rockwell, Brinell, etc. is well understood.

Regards
Ken B

Not to interject some more worthless leagal mumbo jumbo but.... If fraud was committed against them,KRE, then they still must make it right for the end user/ customer because they failed to ensure that the product they sold met the standard as represented in thier advertising. They failed to ensure on a case by case basis that each block was able to perform as advertised. Look at the Firestone tire/ Ford SUV delemma a few years back. Ford and Firestone bothe blamed each other and both were technically at fault. But the end user/ consumer had the condition corrected (recall) at no expense and those who experienced loss in one way or another were compensated for that loss as well. Hence the term "case in point".
Watch out though. Bankruptcy is an emergency exit stage left.

In light of two customers from Texas being made whole to their satisfaction, what's the latest on the two blocks Brad Spidel purchased? How about the racer from Ohio that wrecked his car (Tom Woods?)? Scott Roberts?

my dad is supposed to be recieving 2 new blocks before christmas.this is to replace the 2(inferior blocks) we originally purchased from KRE. as far as my dad's crankshaft being bent, and all of our troubles(time, money, wasted racing fuel, and trips to the track, rings, bearings, gaskets, rtv, engine oil)((all that crap adds up, especialy when you are retired!)) we went thru trying to seal my engine, and make the power my dad's should have, this past season, i hope some some type of an agreable resolution can be made between me and KRE. i believe my dad is just happy to be getting 2 new blocks, not gonna fly with me!! we shall se what happens!
