Who knows about Bobby Watson's Catalina? if you look at the picture there arent any holes bored in the frame rails!

Yeah I don't see any holes in the frame either in that pic, Car may have been a "Non swissed" SD Car? according to Pete's book he lists at least 2 swiss cheese cars as "Unknowns" I take that to mean doesn't know who got them. but that mystery may have been cleared up by now. The book uses the "swiss cheese" term about this car several times and tells of Bobby Watson recalling the car came with a 3spd tranny, and Pontiac sending him a 4spd along with a shorter driveshaft and shorter rear control arms, to "alter" the wheelbase slightly. and how expensive the firefrost silver paint was to touch up the rear 1/4's after "altering" the fenderwells while installing the new rear control arms. could be BS's, but who knows?

Thanks for link Eddy.....the 60 Big Iron looks cool with the Keystone wheels...at least I think they are. Apapaho was runing C stock when I first saw/worked on the car "back in the day". Gene ran a lot of IHRA back then..I think he won C stock championship one year but can't document that. Bob Maxie's 60 wagon (Eric's post) sure looks a lot like Joe Perzan's Big Bruiser wagon....right down to the altered grille...
I've been pondering a wheel selection since ditching my 8 Lugs in favor of safety with disc brakes...got to remain different ya know..

Didn't some of the Swiss Cheese cars have to change out their frames back to regular frames because the 'holy' frames were breaking? Maybe this was one of those cars.

I tend to believe it, since our '65 was also delivered with a 3 spd installed and the 4 speed in the trunk. Build sheet shows a four speed as delivered...

Incidently, our GTO is mentioned in Charlie's book. I was shocked; we had been casually communicating via email but I didn't think he had anything substantiative enough to use.

Could be Jerry, I've heard that as well, but wasn't there back then, so, who knows? I wonder how many restored "swiss cheese" car had them changed " back in the day", then "recheesed" for restoration purposes?

I'm still look'n for a pic of a 66-67 GTO that raced out of Mass in the late 60s.. Car was called "GOLDDIGER"..
The name ended up on a Camero I believe .

Was the car for sale? Sold? etc..
As I recall it was a super clean car, spit polish & shine type but also ran like stink. We were run'n a 65 GTO that was pull'd from the Charles River near Boston. We built a motor in the driveway etc.. The Golddigger crew used to shake their heads at us at frist but later helped us out a lot..Were a good bunch...\

Re...the post about the Swiss Cheese frames 'tearing', needing replacements........I had two of the cars at the same time. The first one and the second oone, Mickey Thompson and Royal Pont. Both bodies had a wrinkle in the outer fender centered in the rear wheel opening. The Royal car body was cracked just below the back edge of the rear side window, in the horizontal section of the body. My wifes ratty '63 driver has the same cracks. The M/T car had no frame damage I could discern, but had a 1" tubular traction set up that came from the lower control arm to just short of the rear bumper, Gas Rhonda had a similar set up on his '63 Ford in '63, so I suspect Mickey Thompson did that himself. I still have that junk here.

As some of you may know I have the only aluminum frame. I wrote recently to PHS and they have no info on it although it has a rather complete builders plate with specs and application plainly listed. PHS told me that they have virtually nothing on the '63 SD program other than a few adverisment copies. They speculated that the aluminum frame may have been going to be the fix for the Swiss Cheese frames that were breaking. Pontiac got off that hook due to the Jan '63 racing cut off. No additonal information has come to light since. I have the PHS letteer here...........Hey, I may have a picture of it on file in my computer............I will try to figure out how to add it to this post, if not I will Post it seperately.
