SWEET peice there Mr Harper. I'd love to have one of those. I'd "bob" the hammer and slant the front sight so it doesn't catch on clothing when quickly brought into action.....Cliff

I like the .357. They are "almost" as fun as the 44 but cheaper to shoot.

Very nice, Jeff! I usually get by with this S&W 642. My others require deeper pockets.

CLIFF, thanks...thats actually a great idea, and I may have done. The Lady Smiths have been a hit with MEN for this reason I hear. Backups, I heard.
STEVE...Thats a great day in anyones book if they can shoot that much! I havent been able to walk since last July, but now on crutches awaiting some surgery. When you cant walk or stand up, you feel VERY vulnerable. I am able to go out some, mainly to my office, afternoons until night. I am the last one there most nights and since we are located 1/2 mile from "rent controlled" apartments, I found myself feeling like someone was coming up behind me when I walked outside into the lot. We do have a few lights, but not "stadium lit" Its strange how your other senses kick in when you cant "fight or flight".....I have 360 degree vision now...kidding of course, but you get VERY aware of whats around you and you look further out for people in your zone. Much more than usual, and I used to watch everyone. I felt like I couldnt pull the handgun as well, so decided to put a Uncle Mikes style holster on my right crutch with a nylon cinch strap. Its really handy, and "right there". I dont have to take my hands off the crutch and risk falling trying to draw from a waist or belt holster. I unsnap it when leaving the lobby. Its really much easier to use this way. I put it in a safe at work, and leave hoslter strapped on empty. Jeff ![]()

I carry a 380 PPK (9mmshort)(95 gr. hollow point) for everyday carrys but in the woods I carry a 44 Mag. For those who don't like the wallop of the 44 Mag you can shoot 44 specials in the 44 Mag and they are cheaper to load, like shooting 33 specials in the 357 Mag. It's all good.
Jack.

Yeah Jeff, I spanked it pretty hard that day! My other guns are getting jealous.
That's a nice rig you devised, pretty smart. Can't have too much situational awareness these days. I wish you luck on that surgery, I know it's been a long wait. Keep me updated and let me know if I can do anything. |

"CLIFF, thanks...thats actually a great idea, and I may have done. The Lady Smiths have been a hit with MEN for this reason I hear. Backups, I heard."
The ONLY purpose of the hammer on those weapons is to give the holster strap something to get hold of. The square cut front site can and will snag on loose clothing. It looks like it has a tiny roll pin to drive out. I'd remove it and back slash it, polish it smooth, then bead blast it and paint it flat black, or take a black magic marker to it. Fine weapon in every respect otherwise, and I'm sure its a half the weight of the steel frame version(s). The 3914 is a fine weapon, if you like slim, light weight 9mm auto pistols and don't want to spend a lot of money on tupperware! Seriously, they are very functional, good fit, smooth lines, etc. I purchased mine decades ago from a representative from Smith and Wesson who was letting our department test some new weapons. I fell for it immediately, and just had to have it, just like I did with Deb a few years earlier!....LOL......Cliff

Wheel guns are more fun to shoot.
But being thin, small autos fit me better. As Cliff brought up, i wont carry anything that has hammers or levers sticking out. Do just as well(sometimes better) shot'n from the hip then bring'n up to line of sight during up close practice.

Yep, wheel guns night blind ya worse then autos.
While training my kids, one the 1st things i did was have them shoot "once" without ear protection. Told them remember that when watching movies. Think the actors would be talking at a normal level after a shoot out? Another thing. Let'm take turns try'n to break out a windshield, side and rear glass with a ball bat. Remember that next time you see an actor punch/kick one in/or out.

A couple of photos of my hangun of choice.
Ruger Security Six in .357 mag I bought this one off of a local cop when the force changed over to 9mm semi auto service guns. I've owned it close to 20yrs, shoots great, is well balanced. As Bill said you'll be deaf and blind if you fire it in an enclosed dark area. The bright side of that is so will the other guy. The truth of the matter is If it's in the house and I'm in a hurry I'll grab a shotgun before I grab the Ruger. Mike

And the other guy is going to have much bigger problems - always better to be on the giving end of the flash boom than the receiving end.

I live in Illinois.....one of only a few states that don't allow conceal carry. If I had the option I would carry...

Mick, When playing catch with a fired round it's always better to be the "thrower" than it is to be the catcher!

Here is one of my first handgun purchases, a S&W model 681 in .357 mag. or .38 spcl.
I had the Goncalo (sp?) grips put on at factory during a recall when it was sent back. I think IN Highway Patroll carried these didnt they? Other is a COLT .32. I was showing someone for comparrission. Its a great shooter, and I carried when Bear Hunting in NC as a side arm, walking in and out, not for hunting. Of course that first day we killed 8 and the largest was 525lbs so I didnt "quite" feel the .357 would do it for me after that, if one charged...lol
