Here is passage about my car, a '64 Grand Prix, I found in the details that came with the car:
It was built for the 1964 model year and rolled off the line on the 21st of November 1963 in the General Motors South Gate plant, Los Angeles, California. From there it went to a showroom floor in a dealership in Glendale, Arizona called Mecham Pontiac. It was from here that the cars first owner purchased the car. Amazingly he kept the car for about 37 years and by all accounts rarely drove it. Apparently he used to drive it twice a week to the nearest town to see his sister! A fact confirmed by a later owner during a discussion with the original dealership.

My GTO was sold thru my uncle's dealership after being purchased originally by the St Louis Zone Office, (as a 992 vehicle). My understanding is that all 992 vehicles were "special vehicles" in some way, (Drag Vehicle, Show Vehicle, Advertising Vehicle, etc).

The car came with a special Mechanical Linkage when I received the car from Pontiac.
The carbs were special carbs from Rochester Products and had "job numbers" listed on parts of the carburetor.

So it was some sort of a special car. Because it never came to a dealer when new, it never received a Dealer emblem. My uncle gave me one of his dealer emblems as some people, as was mentioned, did not want the emblem on the sheetmetal when delivered. I never put it on the car but I still have it.

Got my '71 GTO through Plaza Pontiac in Tucker, Ga. Car was actually in the inventory of Vince Whibb Pontiac in Pensacola, Fla., so I flew down there and drove it back to Tucker. A few days later, I was back at Plaza to get my state safety inspection sticker and spotted one of the new car prep crew headed for the deck lid of my car with a freshly-peeled silver foil dealer sticker. I yelled "Hold it!" and assured him in no uncertain terms that he would forfeit his life if he took one step closer to my car with that damn sticker.

When I got my PHS folder back on my 70 GTO , I found that my car was sold at a local dealer Escue Pontiac. They were located in the downtown area I believe, but have been gone for a long time. I guess it has been a local car all it's life. John

my 70 goat from winkel motors inc. reno nv. there is a sticker on the front of my owners manual with hand printing "GMO 87 XCO 244327" PHS shows car listed as export. original owner and many in the service ordered cars while over seas and had them delivered to a dealership near there home in the states. I have heard there were tax advantages to this. both of my brothers have done this with new harleys in the past.

The GV was bought new at Vincel Pontiac in St Louis

The T/A I have says "Hudiburg Chevrolet, Fort Worth" but I found none in TX, only in OK.

Im guessing it was sold there as a pre owned car early in its life.

Shortly after i bought my 442, i tracked down the original owner- he Told me he ordered the car new at the local oldsmobile dealer in Bellevue. Did a little searching on the internet and found this pic of the dealership in 1969.



The building is still there... last summer I was in that area and snapped a pic of my car out front.



I actually found a license plate holder from the dealership at a swap meet a few years ago. Must be pretty rare since the dealership closed and merged with the Cadillac dealer a few blocks away around 1975 or so.

Noticing that you are one of our European members, I'm wondering if you know about Mecham's history? They are one of the higher profile Pontiac Dealers due to the two Mecham Brother's dealer upgrades to Trans Ams in the '70s known as The Macho Trans Ams

The Nebraska origin was surprising given the car's original rust-free floorboards.
