I USE THEM FOR MOST OF MY PARTS ANYMORE IF I CAN WAIT FOR SHIPPING DATE. THEY BEAT ALL LOCAL PRICEING AND HAVE MOST OF THE SAME BRANDS. IF I NEED IT FAST, I BUY LOCAL AND PAY THE HIGH PRICE. WORKS FOR ME.

I've decided that the tired neglected 8.6 CR engine is coming out and the A1 will be going in.

I brought the A1 in from the barn so I can remove the Hydramatic and clean it up.. For now I'll use it with the 2 barrel since I don't have the right carbs for the tripower yet.. It's an easy swap down the road and I want to get this car going soon...

What do you guys say... should I paint this engine or should I leave it the way it is?

I vote for "leave it the way it is".

OK then.. I have a more weathered looking tripower manifold that's not the Super Duty casting, which is what the one in the engine photo is..
Anybody know if the porting is different on the "stock" tripower manifold than the "SD" one.
They have different casting numbers..

The blue manifold- is it the aluminum #540510 ('61 SD)? If so, it's functionally identical to any iron '60 Tri-Power manifold.

The Blue one is the 535552 and the unpainted one is the 536194... I've noticed over the years that the "stock" 536194 seems to be less available than the Super Duty one, meaning I've seen fewer of them offered for sale here and on Fee-bay..

Any difference other than casting numbers?

I don't think a heater pipe nipple is tapped in the so called SD one..Pontiac relocated the hose to the passenger side head because of a "gurgle" noise..
The 510 aluminum is cast with the 61 water by pass...

Troy- You're right, the 540510 has a provision for the pump-interface. But it also has the 1/2" NPT tapped hole for heater-hose/guage-sender.

As for the 535552 being "SD", I'm skeptical. But you need to understand that the whole subject of "Super Duty" nomenclature prior to 1962 is a pet peeve of mine.

Yep...aluminum 510 had heater nipple tapped....but the "so called" SD iron one did not..IIR..only difference I could find.
SD not around in 60 is a pet peeve of mine Jack ..
I firmly believe 60 was birth year for SD....maybe not for production runs..but for NASCAR & drag racing..I seem to remember that NHRA made the 510 intake legal for 60...but not legal for 61 model year..??
Next time I see Arnie I hope to ask him his opinion.......

I have decided to use Dog Dish poverty caps for my Safari.
Any of my pals out there have some clips to hold them on the wheels?
Anybody know where I can get some?
Much obliged in advance...

IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO GET THE PROPER WHEELS THAT WILL ACCEPT THEM, WHAT I HAVE DONE IS MADE MY OWN CLIPS THAT WORK WITH THE PROFILE OF THE CAPS AND SCREW THE CLIPS TO THE WHEEL. I ALSO HAVE USED JUST SCREWS IN THREE OR FOUR SPOTS AND SNAPPED THE CAPS OVER THE HEADS. YOU MAY HAVE TO USE TRIAL AND ERROR TO GET THE CORECT LOCATION TO KEEP THE CAPS TIGHT TO THE WHEELS, BUT BOTH WAYS HAVE WORKED WELL FOR ME.

I actually do have the wheels with the slots in them for the proper clips and want to find the right ones before I resort to rigging anything up. Is this a "junkyard only" item or does someone supply them?

MOJO, IMO, the RIGHT clips are not available aftermarket for Pontiac wheels/caps. Originals are the way to go but are tough to find / 'spensive if you do.

Are they BOP or do the Chebbies have the same ones?
I don't need concourse just something that will grab these caps from the inside and hold them on...
I'm going to be on the hunt every place I go from now on..

I found one guy that says he can get some but to do it he must buy 100 from his supplier. He would then sell me 12 for $65 .. I don't know if they are exact replicas or just something that works..

SOUNDS LIKE THE SCREW HEAD IS YOUR BEST WAY TO GO FOR YOUR NON-CONCOURSE UPGRADE. OR, YOU COULD BUY THE 100 CLIPS FOR YOURSELF AND THEN SELL THE REST FOR $5.50 EA. TO 22 OTHER GUYS THAT NEED 'EM AND YOUR PROFITS CAN BUY THAT NEW CLUTCH! YOU KNOW, BUY LOW, SELL HIGH. JUST A IDEA. THATS HOW I FUND MY PROJECTS. THAT WAY YOU GET YOUR STUFF FOR FREE!

To the best of my knowledge, '59(?)-'64 P8 rim clips fit Pontiac ONLY...the Fusick offering is for OLDS wheels and they do not work (on a DRIVEN car, maybe a trailer queen). Did Ch3vy even use them? (Didn't think they did).

If your source can do 100 pcs I will buy 24 IF (and only if) they are the same as the Pontiac design. (BTW, I have an NOS unit for comparison.)

Can you post a photo of what they are supposed to look like?

I'll send you his info via PM. I don't want to advertise for him and if they turn out to be junk I'd hate to be responsible..

Aren't the clips used on the 55-56 pontiac wheels with dog dish hubcaps the same? I've seen pics of at least a couple of 60's with wrong earlier dog dishes on them. I think the hubcaps are basically the same design as far as how they attach. Maybe I'm mistaken.

Are the '50s clips and wheels easier to get?
