Even the factory setup didn't have the shroud up tight against the radiator. I'm sure you 64 mounts the same as my 65.

Take a look at the 800009, I think it is similar to what you have only 3" thick because it has 2 -1.25" cores. The 800010 would be better but I don't think it will fit. These cars have a very small area for a radiator. I show these because they work well for the price and you have a higher HP then stock motor and will need the best of everything in quality, not necessarily price. Not sure if a new radiator is in your plans.

Ok, got the 18" fan installed finally. Also mounted the upper hose to remove that straight up curve. Now I just have to refill with coolant and give it a go.

Forgot to attach pics. Check out the hose relocation. The clutch is 1.4" away from the radiator core. I'll mess with the fan shroud after I see how it runs on the highway without the electric fan in the way.

Can someone measure from a point on the engine to the front of the radiator core? Maybe from the heads?

SUCCESS!

I installed an 18" 7 blade clutch fan with Hayden severe duty. No adjustments made to spring. No fan shroud yet as that will take some customization. I also reduced clearance on water pump divider from about .011 to .04 at the closest spot. Oh, and changed the water neck to lower the hose below radiator.

It's about 50° outside, but that didn't matter before, and last winter, when it ran hot on highway.

Now, it stayed between 160-165 both on highway and around town. I have a 160° thermostat. Plus oil PSI is great again.

I only drove for 25 minutes, about half on highway. When I have time, I'll go longer. But so far, HUGE difference removing electric fan.

Default Good news

Excellent.
I have similar setup and Car seems to like the 160 milodon high flow stat.
7 blade AC fan with HD clutch, smaller WP pulley and TIGHT factory shroud.
and aluminum rad with 2row, 1 inch tubes.

Your speedo does not work!!! I think the fan would not matter I'll bet the clearance helped more. It did for me. Glad it worked for you! One of these days we have to meet up at a hang out. If my car ever gets off the jack stands. Liberty gear told me 4 weeks they are at 7 week right now

I beg your pardon, my Speedo works. It's not CONNECTED, but it works. What doesn't work is the output gear on the tranny. It's on my ToDo list. Not easy without a lift, so not a priority.

I don't think the clearance did as much as removing the restrictive electric fan shroud.

Let's go easy on the F word. Let's say it's improved for now and reserve the F word for summer heat. LOL

Awesome so far! I like those numbers MUCH better.

Just more reinforcement that my Taurus fan should never go in anything again!

Since it started cooling off around here, I need to put a stat back in. Not warming up enough.

drove about a half hour straight at 3,000 RPM. Temp stayed right at 160 the entire time. Even when I came home and let it idle in the driveway for 10 more minutes.

Certainly encouraging!

Well, that could be a concern. I saw some threads on how cool is too cool. I was getting heat from the heater at least.

I need a shroud of some sort and of course, I could always go to a 180* t-stat instead of the 160* I have. But I won't change anything further like that until it's hot again.

I guess it's time to yank out the electric fan wiring and related switch though

Heat makes horsepower, so yes move up to the 180 degree tstat.

Adam, just to confirm, in your electric fan setup, you found a 'bug' in that your temp sending switch for the fans was never coming on at highway speeds due to ambient air tricking it into thinking things were below the set point. Did you ever test with a hardwired switch to turn on the electric fans at highway speeds ?

I think this was a recent phenominan. I think the probe worked its way out about 1/4" after recent work. But that was not always like that. So I'd discount that issue. I'm convinced that the electric fan shroud was causing air flow restrictions at highway speed.

Oh, and I also confirmed that the fan was coming on last month at highway speeds because I was able to switch it off and see the temps go up 5*, then turn back on and have them come down the 5* (from 205 to 210 and back) all while driving a constant 3,000 RPM.

Thanks; seems like you ruled out that issue.
