Haha not your car, I meant someone who makes a big thing out of if car has original window or parts, but won't replace when worn out because they won't be original and worth as much.

I personally think original glass is cool, especially windshields. Not because it needs to be original, But I always find it amazing because of the common stone chips, stress cracks & the ever popular worn out wiper blade witness marks. Sure not a deal breaker by any stretch to have aftermarket glass, But date matching glass is just cool in its own way. Most people I talk to do not even know the glass is date coded. I learned about it not all that many years ago & it was after that time that I became more interested in it. Just a cool aspect of surviving cars even if they have had a repaint imo.

True, if in good condition then it's great. My car has all original 4 glass in fairly good condition. But I will replace the door glass when finished and likely the rear screen as a previous paint job saw one edge meet an orbital sander, although mostly under the trim. Original glass is great, but it will no longer be at the same standard as the car so needs to be updated. No gold tint here.

Did you price a replacement windshield from Pilkington or ECS? My bet is it would be cheaper in the long run than polishing which has very limited applications.

This will give you much better access and also a chance to have the inner fenders powder coated. That said, you would be better off to both remove the inner fenders and pull the engine and transmission to do the detailing work. You can get a great job done doing this while leaving all front sheet metal attached. If you want to discuss, text your number to me at 304.859.7509. Best of luck.

Thanks Bob. I have some very well known craftsman on this forum who are going to hopefully do this car. We'll discuss every option to making the motor compartment of this car right. A picture of the finished body will be posted very soon.. The windshield Safco logo was polished off while still in the car. cost 100 bucks. I have a buddy who can restamp the proper , I believe. LOF markings. Thanks again

I am pretty sure it does a little in the front but not much, however, my cars are not stored near my home to check

On the windshield, has anyone ever tried to remove the labels from pilkington, etc? those are painted or inked, are they not? just curious.

I think the original window markings are etched into the surface.

Anybody see this tenth t/a? just 500 less miles than mine & in nearly identical condition give or take a few things.

I found the invoice date interesting. Sold in November of 79? dealer stock?
I figured all the 4 speed cars where spoken for early in the year. interesting for sure.

That was a super expensive car in 1979. Probably sat on the showroom floor for a few months.

I see it cost $90 for the W72, and since cruise was typically part of the 10th anniversary package and not available with the manual trans, the credit for cruise delete was $103 for a net discount of $13 for opting for the Pontiac engine and 4 speed. Good deal I'd say.

My guess the manuals were a harder sell. These were pretty much luxury cars in a sexy body.
68 ragtop, I have started a Tenth registry, have 30+ cars listed. Would be great if you would share a bit on yours.

I would never buy an automatic 1979 T/A, because the engine choices were blah at best.

Very true knowing what we know today. But in 1979 the difference between buying an auto and a stick was the amount of work you had to put into the car to go from point a to point b.

Interesting that the E-Bay car shows the Dealer Copy for Page 1 of the window sticker, but Page 2 shows the original window sticker.

Every 10th Anniversary car had all available options, the only choice was the 400 4-speed. When that was chosen, Cruise Control was deleted.

The front center air dam and front wheel spoilers were deleted on Norwood cars approx. 10-10-78 due to a supplier issue, then reinstated end of Nov 1978. Special Edition cars produced at Norwood took priority and did receive air dams, but not regular Trans Ams or 10th Anniversary cars.

That certainly is an interesting bit of info. I would've never thought such a thing. My car had a spare tire delete when new, but I couldn't imagine a front spoiler delete!

Yes, hard to imagine any 79 TA's were sold to the public without the front air dam and flares installed. I have seen pics of them without the parts on the car hauling trailers, but I thought that was to prevent damage to them for loading and unloading, and that the parts were installed once the car was on the ground at the dealer.

So I did these flair delete cars not have the holes in the front fenders then? I would image they would not. Had to be a pain for GM to produce a fender with the air extractors but no flare mounting holes.

I could see a dealer leaving them off to put them on one of those lot displays though.
Would be interesting to see if the parts were in the trunk

Whenever I see vintage photos like this, I always wonder if by chance the car in the photo is still around & perhaps owned by another car member on the forum.
