I have enjoyed watching your TA come around ,Good work ,,I Get more looks and complements while driving my 70 or 71 Than any car I have ever been in,, It takes me 1/2 hr just to get gas from kids to old ladys all come up to the car, I have been in the tire Business with my dad for 40 + years even before I could lift one,,, Any way an E range or 10 ply tires are now being made in the 225 /15 that this is what You will need to stick with,,
The 8 plys if you are OK but if you have a choise go with 10 ,, Just stay away from the c or 6 ply not with your car over them,, I have seen tires come apart and take the trailer fender along with the side of the car with it ,, As for brands I have had very good luck with the goodyear marath A few more $$ over any other tire ,But better than the ditch, ,,,, My best seller is the deadmen trailer tire every one loves them and end up buying a 2nd set when needed ,,they are as good as you are going to get ,,for The main prob I see with tires blowing out Is not keeping the tire press at max ,about 60 65 in 8 ply d may be 70 80 in the 10 e..ALL THE TIME stay away from c 6ply do not cut it,, allso when a trailer tire hits 4...years old toss it ,it is just not worth taking a chance,, lastly look close for dry rot from the sun cracks in the sidewall,,

Thanks for the trailer tire tips. I have had so many trailer tires expire over the years it just makes we wanna cry - all that money spent and maybe only 200 miles on the tires. It's hard to comprehend that you have to toss them after a few years when they are still fully treaded. But they do have a limited life.

I did end up going with the Goodyear Marathons in the load range E and bought tire covers to shield them from the sun, and parked the trailer on plywood so it's not on the muddy ground, and aired them up to 70 when they are sitting....

Other than that, I have been tinkering with the temp sender(s) http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...=632070&page=2 and a sticky fuel gauge float that was reading 1/4 when it was full. Until I took it for a ride and kept slamming the brakes, which seemed to break it free. I also have a new D992 starter solenoid coming this week since the original doesn't like to start when the car is hot. It never ends. :-)

Steve...I will give you a little hint on the started solenoid.. Go to NAPA and buy a $39.99 starter solenoid for a 1971 TA. The large spring, appriximately 2" in diameter, use it with your original one. That is what is causing your starting problems with heat. The original one has heated up and cooled so many times it has lost its "spring".. If you just install a new spring, and I believe the NAPA ones are approx 1/2" longer, your heating start issues will disappear and you will be able to keep your original solenoid. This is what the heat problem has always been. 9 out of 10 times it is just the spring... Try it, you will be suprised. Recall I was right about your temp sender..... I have been there done that on the hot start solenoid.. Didn;t want to go without my original solenoid and figured it was the large spring... hope this helps you..

Sounds logical. I already installed the D992 but it's good to have the backup plan for when it heats up again!

Yes Steve... this is exactly why these solenoids always had heat problems. If you look at the operation of the spring, if it loses it's "spring", then it will not push the lever far enough for your starting gear to engage. Heat softens metal and definately has an affect on springs.. SO get a new longer spring and you will be able to keep your original ,correctly numbered solenoid. I bet the new spring is longer than the old one.. So all reading this post, remember this next time you have a heat start issue. Just go buy a cheapo NAPA new one. Take the spring and replace... your problems will be solved..

I went to a gear drive starter from jegs,, The ,030 over 455 HO engine turns over just as nice red hot as it does when cold, Yes I would rather keep it OE. Then again not one prob in over 2 years,, I can allways put the stock one back in,
