The 500 mile trip in itself would be a great opportunity to continue the break-in process. I like to drive local hops just to insure that all the bolts and clamps are tight, but once the integrity of the engine has been confirmed a proper drive is great to continue the process. Basically you want to avoid idle conditions and if at a light you simply drop it in neutral and keep the RPM's up a bit. Avoid lugging in overdrive and keep the cruise RPM up in a comfortable range. Coasting down for a few seconds in gear every once in awhile helps also. You just really want to avoid low RPM, lugging, and constant speeds.

One of the best things you can to break in a street engine is drive it up a long hill on a 2 lane country road with lots of turns. Pulling the hill helps seat the rings and varying your speeds helps with the rings seating where you installed them at, ring gaps 180 degrees apart.

You can break it in on the trip if you avoid constant cruising speeds. It needs to be run through the gears on acceleration and down shifted for deceleration as well to seat the rings. Both load and high vacuum situations. Avoid constant engine speed for the first 300 miles or so.

Yes it is but that’s only 20-30 mins runtime and the show is rapidly approaching. I don’t want to find out something is amiss 250 miles from home

Excited for you! FWIW, I installed the engine and trans as a combo in my Firebird, alone, numerous times. A load leveler will make it easy.

Those are really nice That was a good choice. At a glance they look like originals until you notice the details.

Glad you're happy with the new seats.
Have you been able to retrieve the engine yet?

All the interior shops are backed up around here plus I’m broke so upholstery will be a while. If I get the engine installed the 4th I will shake it down flrv12 days then head to the run in the sun in Myrtle beach. Show it as under construction
