There was a guy here years ago that had a yenko camaro, and while most people thought the wheels were rare yenko wheels instead of chevy rallys, they were 14x6 Pontiac Rally wheels. Personally, I loved it that a high end chevy used Pontiac wheels!

I am not one to pick apart a guys restored car unless it is called restored and it has a pos chevy in it. I don't care what year Pontiac it is, have a Pontiac in it! Any other engine under the hood devalues the thing, and yes, I do say something to them about it. If you have an 81 or older Pontiac and you put another brand engine in it, even a late model pos ls series engine, I don't care if I offend you for being an idiot.

Yep, Don Yenko loved the Pontiac Rally II, and he started using them in 1967, right when they were introduced by Pontiac. Some of the Baldwin-Motion cars also used a Pontiac hood tach!

and the opposite is true as well.

Our '65 GTO is so tight between the RF fender and passenger door that it keeps the paint worn off on the fender. Been that way since new.

And - speaking of twist - the car twisted enough upon launch that it popped the windshield out on one occasion. Fortunately, it was not broken and we were able to reinstall it there at the track.

The door to fender wear is pretty common on the old cars.

Keith, did Dad have any key comments when he poped the glass out of the old GTO on that occasion?

I know it scratched it a little bit as it skittered across the concrete and into the grass. Other than that, they were able to pop it right back in and keep going and, as far as I know, it's been in there ever since.

I don't know if you've ever owned a convertible, but when it's cold out you can put the windows up and turn the heater on, and stay pretty comfortable. I once drove my old '61 Bonneville convert 120 miles in 35 degree weather that way.

I own a rag top now, I'm talking about people who do this in the summer. Usually old people, dudes with toupees and chicks.

Sure wish I had the time to make a Tempest tribute car out of a 67 GTO, paint it Carousel Red with a simulated Enduro bumper, add a Camaro front spoiler, 70 Judge rear spoiler, 20 inch wheels with white letter tires, heavy duty rear sway bar, chrome bullet rear view mirrors, 427 Chevy tri-power with Dodge 6 pack stickers on the front fenders, Hurst T-handle for the column shifter, an 81 Shaker style hood scoop, yellow plug wires, fuzzy dice for valve stem caps, carpeting bolted to the top of the seats and a 64 style splitter exhaust exiting in front of the rear wheels. After it was done, of course, I would have a sign made indicating it was a rare survivor factory prototype.

You forgot the little red engine call out on the air cleaner. Then it would be perfect.

Interesting note on this issue of the rear sway bar even though other a body GM cars had them from what I recall delorean did not like it.

I worked with the Danbury mint years ago on the iris mist 1965 GTO they did. If you ever get a chance to see that car in diecast it features a rear sway bar which as you know is not correct. The reason that danbury mint car has it is they used my personal 1964 GTO for the undercarriage and my 64 had a rear sway bar.

They elected to leave it on the diecast model. The car they used for the 65 was Gary Caves.

In looking over many of the comments I did not see this mentioned. I think this point fits the category of the thread.

Granted my knowledge of GTOs has diminished over the years but one thing I can probably lay claim to is the 1964-1965 optional reproduction GTO splitters. We first made this option back in 1979 and still get them made today for all the Pontiac/GTO sources.

With that said.....many of the cars (1964-1965) I have seen over the years that have them installed for whatever reason don't install them properly...they either have them pointing straight down or over exposed.

So true Dennis! Seen a guy walking past a 65 at a show, and cut his leg open on splitters that were nearly completely out from under the car !!! Super nice car except for that.Made you wonder why were they even on it?

If we are going out to dinner or a cruise-in in the vert, the Misses puts her widow up to save her hair. I thought it looked silly too, that was before I owned a vert and understood.

What looks dumb, is the one rear window up for no reason.

Heck both my daughter and I will roll up the window and crank the heat rather then put the top up. She did learn it from me I am afraid. I have no toupee, or much hair for that matter.
