I'm having trouble getting heat from the heater.
Some times I'll get some gravity heat from it and then none?
I think I might have an air pocket or something is there a special way
of burping or bleeding the air out of the heating system on this car.
It does have two heater cores and the heater motor spins kind of slow.
I might have to pull it and free it up some how. Lets hear some sugguestions ?

If the car has been sitting a long time, the core passages are probably restricted if not plugged.

If you can remove them, how about soaking them in a bath of "CLR-Clear" or similar anti-calcification fluid? If you do that first, you could then back-flush them to dislodge any debris that plugged passages in the 'forward' direction.

As for the slow-spinning fan motor, compare its spinning speed on HI to powering it directly a 12V battery... a major difference in speed suggests that there are burned/resistive switch contacts and/or resistive electrical connections. No difference in speed suggests the need to clean out the ducts and disassemble and clean the motor and oil/replace its bearings.

PS: If you need heat, use a 195 degree thermostat and use a 4 lb. radiator cap - the reduced cooling system pressure will probably save you $$ when the thermal cycling of the radiator and heater core(s) threaten to make them start leaking after such a long nap...

Ditto what Matt said. They are probably plugged - check the flow and temperature inlet and outlet of them to see if they're flowing at all. Be very wary of them bursting and leaking... there aren't any replacements readily available anymore last time I looked!

I found the problem it was a pin hole in the lower tube
coming out of the bottom of the radiator were the heater hose
attaches. I had checked every thing before hooking up all the
heater lines and all was fine. With the small pin hole in the heat
line it kept losing it's prime. The problem is it didn't do it all week
when I had water in it, Now that I've put antifreeze in it it's started
leaking, Just my luck. So I've got to unhook the tranny lines and drain
the rest of the antifreeze and solder the radiator. I thought it was weird
that the heat would come and go like that well now I know why.
I'll fix this and then it will be put up for the winter. Thanks for info guys.
The hard part is getting the licquid through all the lines (pain) Come
summer time it should be ready to go.

The car is fixed and I drove it some more today.
I'm getting good heat out of it now, I'm going to
Drive it till the first snow and then park it.
Now that I got it going I want to keep driving it.
With the tri-power and the cam I used this thing HAULS.
First and second gear is just tire spin. LOL, I love it.
I'll try and get pics tomorrow. Been pretty busy.

GT, The car is looking great. Sounds like a gas to drive. How is the ride, soft and sweet or hard and spicey? Did you get the engine broke in before cold weather? Are you going to ad some dog dish caps? I love it when an old car, that people have given up on, is rebuilt and made useful.

Yes the car is a blast to drive. I got to put a few hundred miles on it
before I put it up, I am going to put some poverty caps on it in the
spring. The motor is all broking in and runs pretty well I am impressed
At just how well it does run. Come on summer I'm ready to drive.

I can't get my dash lights to work on the 57. The light in the ignition and ash tray
lights work but not the dash, and the dome light isn't working either.
Anyone have any thoughts on this problem? Thanks.

I take it you've checked voltage to the dash light sockets. Could be a loose wire , kinda hard to say without looking at it. The sockets themselves ground themselves to the dash so make sure the contacts are good.

Here's a wiring schematic if you don't have a shop manual. Looks like there is a main splice they almost all connect to maybe a good place to check.

Well I was driving it every day pretty much and then it created a miss.

No 2 cylinder had no compression. Thought it was a burnt valve so I pulled

the head and it was perfect. So there is something going on in the cylinder.

Never did fix the dash lights to busy driving it and having fun.

I'm getting ready to put the 58 motor I got in it for this summer. I'll fix the

other one later.
