Don't the cars Chief races against all have bigger better heads?

Yes, that’s why most of them are quicker.

Okay....but Chief won at least one event (competing against thirty one other cars with better, bigger heads) and of those thirty one I believe only four of them managed to win an event.

Why do you think he will go so much faster with a bigger head? Do you think whichever head you have in mind would be comparable or better than the 481X and Hemi heads he competes against?

I have no idea if Chief uses nitrous. Sometimes turbo combination use nitrous to make up for turbo lag.
Paul,
Last month when I was at the track. I talked for someone running a 4 cylinder engine with a larger turbo and a fogger system. I was surprised when he said he ran the nitrous the full 1/4 mile.

Did you notice if the guy was using an intercooler?

I still have no idea how Justin ran quicker then everyone else in Denver, it shows a lot about his tuning skills i suppose! It was cool that he won a race in NPK......I am a Pontiac guy......you cut me Ill bleed Pontiac, I've been RACING them since 1974!
I could care less what head his gets as long as its a upgrade from what he has now! I was really disappointed when he decided to run ProMod at indy and put ALL that money into his car and NOT up grade his heads to at lease give him a better fighting chance to qualify. He fulfilled his dream BUT everyone know it wasn't going to happen (qualifying). Like Ive said before NO ONE else runs e-heads in ProMod or NPK's......there is a reason.

A lot of times they use the nitrous as an "intercooler" if they aren't using an intercooler

So much for conversation.... So he should just change to any head just to make you happy because of your hatred towards Edelbrock heads. Doesn't matter if goes faster, slower or stays the same.....make sense to me.

Did you notice no one else runs a Pontiac in NPK's?

Going by the information that’s out there his engine combo is basically the same for a while now, almost everyone else in NPK have stepped up......just food for thought. I never said no E-heads.......I said anything other then his e heads.....a 450 wide port e head is perfectly except-able!
I wanna see him be more competitive (it’s already a start )! PPTTF!

Paul,
If he is winning his share why change? Maybe some of the others are changing / upgrading because they are not winning.

George he is primarily a guy that races on a street....he is very competitive there. This is his first year in NPK's. You said yourself you can't figure out how he won...maybe others can. I really doubt he is not wanting to go faster. If you wide-port an E-head you now have an offset rocker arm and lifter you have to deal with. Put a hi-port on the engine and you deal with an exhaust port that's no better than what he has. Put a Tiger head on the car and you move the RPM up a chit ton and that may create reliability issues. A custom Billet RAV sounds like a decent option but not sure if any are commercially available... Visnor's are probably the best option but he will still need to deal with a lot of custom parts and a big learning curve.

Now suppose he goes with a bigger, better head...does he loose his competitive edge he has on the street? What if he goes with a bigger, better head and he slows down? How does he recoop the time and money spent?

I agree.... Personally I would make a change when I felt the combination was maxed out.... Idk where he feels he's at. I know he's at the top of the list on the street and he's often talked about that being important to him.

THE street......he's racing the same 405 group and then when he goes out of town half of the cars are DOGS, hell some of them wouldn't pass a NHRA or a IHRA tech of there lives depend on it and by the way it does. Actually I'm getting tired or watching Street Outlaws......BORING and don't even get me stared on the Memphis junk show! LOL! The NPK is a much better show, WAY more competitive.
Like I said earlier.......NO ONE else is running e-heads......WHY, you know why! Justin only is quicker then a couple of NPK cars! I sure couldn't run in a Heads-Up race knowing almost everyone else was quicker and had more power.
Hell when I stared to run the Nostalgia Pro-Tree index races I realize that my lights was not going to get the job done.......and I mean WINNING a race, I just don't want to go a couple of rounds, thats what loses do. So I had to make some changes to cut a competitive .030 or better light. My .090's wasn't going to get me but about one to two rounds........so I started bumping in deep that got me in the .060 range BUT I wanted to win so I had to make another change to keep up! That's what racing is all about making changes to keep up or staying ahead and I like staying ahead!

I made changes (staged deep) got down to 3 cars (semis thats 5 rounds), i had an spark plug problem. My other change was buying a bump box......I could not get it to work (still working on it). Ive won money in the last 5 races I've raced in eliminations. Got down to semis in 3 go those races ( we are taking about racing against 60 or more cars) but in order to win i need the bump box. So my changers are working.

You know, I'm not sure why you are cutting me down? I havent said a bad word about anyone .........at least in the race section.
.........and i was just using an example about making changes to get better.

There are around 10 cars or so in the npk series that make far more power then Justin. But here’s the thing, it is harder to race on a surface that will only hold 2500hp with a motor that makes 4000hp compared to one that makes 2000hp. I don’t know what he makes. Just numbers for illustration. Also, why would you need an offset lifter or rocket with a wide port? There are other ways to skin a cat...

I agree with John and to my point why he drives around 481x cars , .Good job Mr Crow..
