Yeah, I'd say that's it then. Both it and the Beech do have a very distinctive sound. That design (pusher props instead of tractor props) causes the props to interact more with the disturbed airflow aft of the wing and the exhaust gases of the turbine engines. (Think of talking through a fan on high speed- same effect) That is what gives it such a distinct noise, and you are right - you most definitely hear them before you see them. There are several flying around Atlanta and I always look up whenever I hear one.

Don't know if this has been posted here before or not but here's a clip with a lot of older pics in there.

"some things never change"
Yes they do. Not one Japanese car in the traffic jam. LOL By the way, anybody interested in guessing the year taken? I say 1955.

I was going to say 1954....but could be '55. I see what appears to be a '55 Chieftan in the far right lane next to the guard rail...Still could be late in 1954 as everything else appears to be '54 or earlier...except maybe the two tone Buick convertible in the left lane.

I spot a 4 door '56 Dodge above and right of the Pontiac convertible.

The Pontiac conv is a 56 and I think I see two 56 Cadillacs. I scanned this out of an old driver safety book. I don't remember when the book was published.

Must have been a pretty bad jam up. I see a couple of people outside of their cars.
No painted lanes. Everybody just goes for the gap I guess...

That looks like any road in NJ at any given time of the day today....

Picture quality is bad because I scanned them for a June 61 Popular Science article on traffic safety.

do not have much info on these 2. this first one is marked Beeline Dragway ( Phoenix ) 1964
![]() This one appears to be the fleet from Gay Pontiac of Texas. I think this may have been taken at the Winternationals in Pomona

By looking at the wheelbases and headers, etc, I would guess 1965-6

Well, it is that time of year again. How time flies! Time to watch all the Charlie Brown videos. The one with Rerun wanting a dog is my favorite but, they are all quite good.
![]() For anyone who lived in the Phoenix area in the 60s-70s, will remember Westward Pontiac. My 73 Ventura (wrecked in 2009) was originally from Westward Pontiac. It never left Phoenix until I hauled the carcass to Utah in 2010.
