They start the Indy 500 THREE wide.

If they can start three wide - they can restart at least double file and they shouldn't have to stretch the cars out over a mile.

Unless the drivers can't handle their cars properly after a few laps of racing.

NASCAR can pull off a restart with 43 cars on a half mile track double file.

It's not too much to expect Indy Cars to restart 33 cars on a 2.5 mile track double file.

Champ, we've been through this all before. Again, they start 3-wide at Indy because it's TRADITION. They also still sing "Back Home Again In Indiana", and the winning driver still takes a swig of milk at the end. It's the oldest race and most famous race in the world, and they don't change traditions.

And they DO start 2-wide in IndyCar (do you even WATCH IndyCar?). The drivers complained. It's too dangerous in an open-wheeled car to run wheel-to-wheel on restarts, but they start and restart 2-wide at most tracks to appease the fans. I'm not sure why you're fixated on this little insignificant piece of trivia, but you keep bringing it up.

You can take an F1 or IndyCar driver and put them in a NASCAR car or truck, and they can run a full race. It's not that hard. The hard part is winning, being competitive, being consistent. That's what separates the Top 20 from the rest of the pack. But you can't take a NASCAR driver and put them in an F1 car for an entire race. They'd pass out. They don't have the physical conditioning required to endure the g-forces for more than a lap or two.

An F1 driver is like an F-16 fighter pilot, and a NASCAR driver is like a Boeing 777 pilot. One is all about speed, g-forces, and the highest tech in the world. The other is about being smooth and steady for long hours at a time. Yet they're both excellent pilots.

I repeat - if they can start the race three wide - they can restart the race three wide.

Traditions are changed all the time. Traditionally, the Indy 500 was always run on Memorial Day proper (May 30th) regardless of the day of the week through 1970. Then in 1971 - 72 it was run on Saturday of the Memorial Day weekend. Since 1974 it has been scheduled for the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend.

So you say that they intentionally start the race 3 wide because of tradition even though you claim it is too dangerous to restart a race 2 wide? They intentionally put the drivers at risk because of tradition - but they change the traditional date of the race for a whim?

You can't have it both ways.

First of all - where did I ever say anything about STARTING an IndyCar race 2 wide? Never happened. I specifically said restart and was referring to the Indy 500 in my post when I commented about restarting do.

Secondly - as you brought up - the start an IndyCar race 2 wide, so there is no reason why they can't "RESTART 33 cars on a 2.5 mile track double file".

I would even accept a single file restart (to appease you) if they would at least try and have the cars in the same area code. As I posted earlier - the cars are so strung out that it makes a mockery of a restart.

I rarely bother watching IndyCar racing. It's not a competitive series IMHO. I find it boring.

I liked it better when the drivers had to run from the wall to their cars, strap in, start the car then go.

Exclamation Paging Danica - The Heat Is On

How many wins Gonaddy?
-------
Erica Enders-Stevens wins at Baytown
| April 27, 2014 | Updated: April 27, 2014 6:55pm

"BAYTOWN, Texas (AP) — Erica Enders-Stevens raced to her second Pro Stock victory of the season Sunday in the NHRA SpringNationals, beating Allen Johnson in the final at Royal Purple Raceway.

Enders-Stevens had a 6.594-second pass at 210.60 mph in her Chevrolet Camaro, beating Johnson — 6.588 at 210.28 — with a better reaction time off the line.

"My team's been really awesome," said Enders-Stevens, also the winner last month in Las Vegas. "I've had a really consistent race car. That's what it takes Sundays, consistency. We had to make last second transmission change and go through the gears to make sure everything was right."

The victory was the 99th by a female driver in NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series history."

Actually - she finished 34th, 5 laps down...

And solidly in 29th place in the standings - 20 points behind rookie Justin Allgaier...

Thank you for posting those links hada76. That proves my point.

A NASCAR driver can make a lap or two, then they'd pass out after that. Too much strain.

Lewis Hamilton, who had never even sat in a NASCAR car in his entire life, who had never had to use a clutch and shifter in his whole professional career, who had never driven Watkins Glen before, managed to generate times within a few seconds of the legendary Tony Stewart's best times. And Hamilton kept improving by a second a lap, which is normal considering he'd never driven the track before.

Tony Stewart did very well, and he said sitting in a Formula One car was "truly the experience of a lifetime". He also said he enjoyed the ride so much that if he knew what it felt like to drive an F1 car 20 years ago instead of discovering it on Tuesday, he might have never done NASCAR.

Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart did quite well considering the F1's cars capabilities were beyond their driving abilities, but they could learn to drive them. They admittedly managed to get around 80% of the F1 car's capabilities figured out.

I don't know that those links prove anything - other than a NASCAR driver can drive an F1 car much better than a Boeing 777 pilot can fly an F16...

Jeff Gordon never hit a jet dryer during a caution - but Juan Pablo managed to do that.....

I find it ironic that Ricky Stenhouse has regressed to Danica's level of performance. If I was Jack Roush I'd tell him that something has to change, girlfriend or performance.

Not quite THAT bad...

He's ahead of his touring princess by 32 points. If Ricky took the race off this weekend and Danica had her "average" finish - she still would be 15 points behind him.

Ricky finished 7th at Daytona and 2nd at Bristol.

The touring princess' best finish this season is 14th.
