and remember when she finished 14th all the news was about how she had turned the corner over last season and was on track to post top 10 finishes every week.

Yeah...

Finishing 14th that day - she was still behind 2 Cup rookies. Kyle Larson took 2nd and Austin Dillon finished 11th.

With all her "experience" most people would think that she might be able to do better than that.

Can Darrell hug her butt any more? WOW...

EDIT:
The overhead view shows Danica coming up, Danica on the radio admits that she was looking in the mirror trying to fit in between the 2 and the 24 and DW still won't blame her...

The biggest problem for Danica is people like DW acting like her media rep. It was a strange race, all parts of it.

And rookies Cole Whit, Josh Wise, Austin Dillon, Landon Cassill and Kyle Larson all finished in front of the touring princess.

Only Dillon has comparable equipment.

Is any of her hype really that different than Dale Jr's hype of yester-year?

Jr won back to back (then) Busch series titles over drivers like Matt Kenseth before moving on to the Cup series. As mentioned above, Danica was mediocre in the Nationwide series at best, and has continued that in the Cup series.

Danica was a nasty b*tch in IndyCar, nothing was ever her fault and that carried over with her to NASCAR. She has gotten much better at what she says, but her facial and body language tell another (old) story. If she got the same press and recognition as her boyfriend there wouldn't be an issue, at least with me, but DW and several others treat her like she's the second coming of King Richard.

Just my assessment of the situation.

Dale Jr. is one of the best plate racers in the Cup series. Dale Jr. has won multiple Championships (1998 and 1999 Nationwide Series). Dale Jr. has won 20 Cup races and has had 210 top 10's.

Danica made news yesterday because...

Quote:
Patrick records best Talladega finish for female:

Three female drivers have competed at Talladega in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series: Janet Guthrie (3 races), Patty Moise (1 race) and Danica Patrick (now 3 races). Before Patrick finished 22nd on Sunday. Guthrie's finish of 29th in August of 1978 was the best finish at Talladega by a female driver. Patrick had finished 33rd in both 2013 Talladega starts.
The media is so desperate to make her look good that it's news that she finished in the bottom half of the 43 cars that started the race...

If Janet Guthrie had been given the quality of equipment that Danica is running every week, she would have been able to win races in the Cup series.

Janet ran a total of 33 Cup races starting at age 38 over a 4 year period.

Janet ran a total of 19 Cup races in 1977 and had 5 Top 10's (Michigan, Bristol, Charlotte and Rockingham. Her AVERAGE finish was 17.7.

The touring princess has run 56 races in her Cup career to date. She has 1 top 10. Her average finish is 26.6.

In 1978 she ran 7 races and had another Top 10 at Michigan. Her average finish was 22.3.

I rest my case...

Dale Jr. had the best of everything all his life....without earning any of it. The fact that he had a little success was due mostly to the machine he was born into. The sport was even altered to try to hype him into filling his father's shoes. It didn't happen. The fact is he's mediocre for a male in NASCAR despite the machine behind the name. Danica was the next big thing from the hype machine.

Disagree or not, NASCAR is a dog and pony show now. After Danica it will be the first openly gay driver.

Poncho

I'm not a Jr. fan and wasn't a fan of Sr. either.

But to ignore what Jr. has accomplished is just being disingenuous. Just because he hasn't done as well as his father, doesn't mean that he hasn't been successful as a race car driver.

Danica is the proof of that. She has been given the best of everything and has accomplished nothing.

How many father's allow their 16 year old daughter to drop out of HS and send them to England to try and become a race car driver?

Dale Jr. didn't even drive a race car until he was 17 and even managed to graduate from HS...

After HS, he worked at his father's dealership as a mechanic while he went to Mitchell Community College to earn an associate's degree in automotive technology.

Can you even imagine the touring princess actually working on a car???

The fact is Panica probably drove the best race of her life, and still only finished 22nd. And there was a lot of attrition that helped pad that number. She would have been her usual 30-35th if there were no wrecks.

I watched some of the race and it said she went from up near the front of the pack to down near the bottom at about 45-50 laps. Funny on TSN (up here) they were saying that she was overheating and was trying to get her temps down. I wondered if she was waiting for a wreck up near the front of the pack and she was being cautious (scared???) and hoping to slide up the standings if enough of the big guys were wrecked???

Danica and Dale Jr are the two most popular drivers is NASCAR. One is popular because of the last name, the other is popular because of the gender. Neither one is popular because of their driving ability.

Dale Jr. has been mediocre for the past several years, but turned it around in the past year or so. If his last name wasn't Earnhardt, he would have been replaced on the Hendrick Team years ago. He's had 3 wins in the past 7 years, with the best equipment in the garage, driving for the best team in NASCAR. Fellow teammate Kasey Kahne has had 4 wins in the past 2 years driving for Hendrick. Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon have 10 championships between them, they're the talent of the Hendrick team. Yet Dale Jr. is the cash cow, just like Danica is the cash cow for Stewart-Haas.

Dale Jr. obviously has more NASCAR talent than Danica (he's had 44 Top 5 finishes since he joined Hendrick), but he can't seem to get wins. Yes, he's overrated, but he's a good driver.

Reminds me of the Chicago Cubs. Perennial losers, the worst record in the history of Major League Baseball, no World Series wins in over 100 years, yet they're the 5th most popular team as far as merchandising goes.
