Show us your "Old HO"
Here's MINE! (just a driver,needs paint)
It's pretty basic; M22,Blue custom trim. I've added the Honeycombs & bumper guards. Other than radial tires,744 cam & Flowmaster American Thunder (transverse muffler) exhaust system,it's original!(oops,almost forgot about the vintage "Ricky Recardo's") Had it to the track a few years back & it ran 13.9 on the T/A's. Haven't driven it for about three years but this spring it's comin' out,FOR SURE!

I guess every week or so I have to prod the HO forum back to life....
Here is a question that is for the 455 HO experts. I can not find a definitive answer in any of the usual sources..... How many of the four fasteners that hold the exhaust crossover to the head were studs and how many were bolts? The parts book lists four studs and no bolts, but if memory serves my car had 3 studs and 1 bolt. One of the four is a bear to install as a stud (too long) so possibly a running change was made for ease of assembly. Anybody have an unmolested car, or taken one apart? |

No hurry. No need for pictures either, just a description.
Please indicate either; 4 studs or a mixture of studs and bolts. If the latter, please describe where you found any bolts (ie LH side front, etc) Also please post the build week and plant (for example 04A Norwood) Thanks! |

Please post pictures too if possible. I would love to see an untouched 71 HO engine or two! Giles, Good questions on studs as people have asked me those questions, and I don't have the answers.

My '71 judge 455 HO ramair 70K miles had 4bolts with the coresponding washers, no studs. Very early car, E date on the block casting sept date on the car build...DDUB

I ended up buying the repro kit that makes the repro air cleaners out there functional. They have the flaps and the air diaphrams and brackets. Not a bad repro, but is made for the repro air cleaner. The flaps are close, but don't connect to the diaphrams like the originals and are off about a quarter turn. I plan on using original donor diaphrams and brackets from other air cleaners, as they are the same and can be pulled from any two barrel carb air cleaner. One could cut out another attachment area from a donor flap and weld into the repro, but would be fairly difficult. I plan on cutting the attachment peg down to fit into the repro flap and should be pretty un noticeable once installed. This is going on a NOM car I am building so doesn't have to be exact. The fit of the hole plug on the flap is off just slightly too....but it's a great alternative to nothing!

This is one of the toughest 72 HO parts to find.

My 2071 July 71 dated carb does not have this. I bought my 7042273 carb from them 3 years ago for $1000. I must admit they did an awesome job refurbishing the carbs. 455 Block question: Were blocks with a 483677 casting# 455HO only, or were used in standard 455 applications as well?
