Welcome. It looks like a twin to my buddy's original, unrestored '65 GTO hardtop, other than his has a red interior, 4spd & no A/C.

Welcome! I won't change a thing on it. Survivors like that are getting more rare by the day.

Very nice indeed. Virtually identical to my '65 LeMans - option for option. The only thing I see different is the walnut dashboard. I had assumed that was a GTO only option. Mine was a lot rougher and I didn't hesitate to tear into it and change it to what I wanted. still a work in progress of course........

Once a year I get the old girl out for a run down the 1/4 mile with some great friends at the Pure Stock muscle car drag race in Michigan, the rest of the time just cruise around town in Ohio. I've owned the car for about 10 years or so, numbers matching, 4 speed, original tripower, parchment interior, also with original factory breakerless ignition. Best time to date 13.37 @ 106.5 mph on F70/14 Firestone wide oval tires.

I wanted to post my 64 convertible although it's still being restored. Any critique or suggestions welcome, I'm pretty thick-skinned and appreciate things aren't correct.

Wow bman, you always have some of the most fascinating 64's. I always miss my 64's and although i've gotmy 65 cloone project,it'll never fill the void left from having owned 2 true 64's.Maybe someday i'll work myself into another. But first....gotta get the 65 done!

Has the drivetrain out of a '67 GTO that had been transplanted into a '66 El Camino. I pulled it from that and put it into my '64 to replace a dead 326. It's a 400 bored .30 over with a TH400 & Hurst Dual-Gate, Posi rear-end. It's getting there, with help from the good folks on this forum! Thanks - Jon

I found a pair of skirts on eBay and had to get them for my '64. Doubt that I'll actually run the car with them on, but thought it might look cool on the Vert sometimes. Like you said, they go on & off easy enough... Not something you see very often, eh? - Jon P

I like the skirts on the convertibles, just for a different 'custom' look.
And because almost nobody else likes 'em. ![]()

I can just imagine how nice a '64 LeMans or GTO convert would look done up right. No crazy custom paint or crushed velvet interior, just the factory Light Saddle interior and Saddle Bronze paint. Custom spinner caps (pictured on my car) and narrow whitewall 195/75-14s on stock 14X6" wheels. Cut-down springs all around or maybe even a pair of airbags in the rear that are a bolt-in, no cutting or any kind of permanent changes. Fender skirts on the car or off, depending on my mood. Pontiac lowered all of their show cars and the cars shown in most of the promotional pics, the Pontiac designers and promo guys knew they looked sleeker and more appealing with a good lowering job. There's no ride like a low-ride.....

![]() Cragar SS wheels were great on 'em too, and don't forget Rocket wheels. Any of the three are great-looking classic 5-spoke wheels, I never liked the trend towards wire wheels on the lowriders. |
