I was bead blasting my black tail light bezels for my Y88 today and noticed that they were originally painted gold under the black. I have no reason to suspect these are not original to the car. Thoughts?

I could see that. Does anyone know when the bezels are painted in the assembly process. Are they painted when the mirrors & spoilers are painted, & then the trim accent colors after? IF there's a spot I can sand on one of my cars I could do that. I know both of them have the original taillights. I repainted them on one of my cars about 13 years ago, but I don't recall what was underneath. I didn't strip them, just scuffed them & repainted them. Did you go with a satin or closer to semi gloss?

Been working on a lot of little things. Still waiting for the shop to get the body back in and start the body work. On the plus side, the machine shop is working on the engine. Can't wait for the dyno run after the build.

Thread dig, expert level. Your forum contribution is noted.
Coloured lights painted black was common in the early stages of the change to black. Mine would have likely been the opposite, painted black with car, then gold added. |

You just brought up a memory. Many Years ago I put together a model & I painted it solar gold & did the interior in camel tan. I used the actual paint from when I did some touch ups on my car & also the center council cover from GM because it only came in black. (do they still make those?) I am pretty sure I still have that model somewhere, but haven't seen it it years. I'll look later, I think I know where it "might" be

I wonder how that place ended up with all those crazy low mile cars. pretty cool. Did not know this Y88 even existed.
Never used to like the vinyl deluxe seats, but they have been growing on me over the past few years. Would love the see under chassis & under hood picts. Sounds like this might be the "actual" car Alvin & Bird referenced in the pictures above in #213?

Considering how many trans am's were made in the mid-late 70's, it seems like there should be more survivors around. Not complaining, since I have one, but still makes me wonder.

The toyota SR5? is pretty cool too. A friend of mine had the 5 speed turbo in black. Was actually pretty quick for a truck at the time.

The Y88's don't bring the same money as the Bandit cars do, which I think is a shame. However, that does work to the advantage of those of us that want them.
