We went to Nelson Ledges and here's the rundown:
New tires are fantastic...night & day difference with fresh rubber! I was able to run the corners hard. NL allows passing on the straights and I blew past 3 cars. One of those drivers came to look at the Firebird in the pits. He was amazed to see a real Pontiac engine. His comment..."the way you passed me, I expected to see an LS engine in here". Hahaha...no way!!!! I was dogging a 300 ZX hard in the corners and started to smell his brakes fading, so he eventually had to back off. My giant Wilwoods were flawless; so I beat him with superior brakes. Allstar axle breather worked perfect. Not a speck of oil escaped. Sorry, no GoPro footage. Driver got distracted during the hurry-up in staging and forgot to trigger it. Mid-Ohio is a lot of short turns back & forth. I didn't get any engine oil in the crankcase breather tank there. In contrast, Nelson Ledges has a long, fast sweeping right-hand turn at the back end of the track. At probably 0.9+ G's, there is no oil drainback from the leftside head and I put a bunch of oil into the breather tank. Next improvement will be to add outboard drains to the valve covers. I've settled on -10 size. Working out the plan for fittings and routing. The most likely return location will be at the fuel pump blockoff plate; so I don't have to pull the motor, modify the pan, etc. Mid-Ohio again on Sept 10th. More to come. Eric
