Remember the rates?
Heck, I bought a brand new 1981 Special edition Turbo Trans Am in 1981! And I had payments for 3 years after! Judgera4, That car looks great! Reminds me of my 1972 Firebird, which I made into a Trans Am clone, with a fiberglass L-88/ZR-1 hood and scoop. But my bird was all primer grey. ![]() George

My first car was a 1969 Firebird. I bought it when I was 17 for $300.00. When I went to look at it it did not run and was being made into a race car. As it turned out, the only thing wrong with the car was a pinched fuel line. So after I paid for it, I fixed the fuel line and drove it home!!!! Boy the dude I bought it from was PISSED when I fired it up and drove it away!!!
I really miss that car... Some great memories...

First car was a '68 Firebird, paid $1600 for it when I was 15. I was looking for a first gen camaro and hadn't seen a first gen firebird. First time I saw this car, I drove it then bought it. Still have it. Incidentally, I have been hooked on firebirds since as my second car was a '96 and third was the '99.

1st car was a '66 2+2 that I bought off my grandparents neighbor for $250 in 1984 when I was 15. The car was silver/black/black, YH421, column shift...pretty basic 2+2. The interior was mint but the body was kinda rough (eastern WA car). The car only had 98k on it and would burn the R/R for about a half block. I let my parents talk me into selling it before I got my license. I ended up with a '76 Chevette that I wrecked 2 weeks after I got my license. I then sold the Chevette and bought a bone stock '54 Ford F100.

My first car was a 68 GTO, triple black, his/hers, Cragars with M50's on the back. Paid $800 for it in 1983, locked the motor up 3 miles from the guys house (I wasn't driving hard, honest). Swapped in a 400 from a 71 Formula and proceeded to run the crap out of it for two years then spun a rod bearing during a high rpm act of stupidity. Sold the car without motor or transmission for $850. I'm still amazed I didn't kill myself in that car.

First car was a 49 Chev.4-dr.Fleetline[fastback].My dad bought it for me in 76 from original owner for $200.I wanted to build a street rod but had no money, job, and hated the 4-drs.so I sold for $100 after tearing it apart. After graduating in 79 I bought it back for $100.Put it back together, drove it awhile then sold it and bought a 55 BelAir for $1200 in 80.Sold that in 83 and bought my 65 GTO for $1400.Still got it.

I bought my first car when I was 16 it was a 64 Lemans 2 door post, because my neighbor wouldn't sell me his 64 gto 4 speed hardtop. I paid $300 for the car in the early 80's and drove it home. It had a tired 326 and a 2 speed and I put a 400 from a 67 Firebird that was wrecked by my friend, the motor cost me $500. 64's are my first love of pontiacs. I'd like find that car.

My first car was 72 AMC Gremlin X. I bought it in 75 for $100. My first Pontiac was a rusty 66 Catalina convert. I've also had : 67 GP, 68 Lemans. Now I've had my 64 GP for almost 6 years. Been able to drive it for the past 1.

nashcar- my black '57 BelAir had the black and silver interior, and yeah, they were pretty cars. It was my 16th car, not my first, and I swapped a Tri-Power Pontiac into it. Definitely not PS, though- for faster steering, I swapped in the Pitman and idler arms from a PS car, but left it manual- good thing it had a large-diameter steering wheel for leverage!
Where in central NY are you? I'm in Phelps.

I live near Ithaca ( Ten square miles surrounded by reality ). The second 57 had black and silver interior. I think I saw it at a car show last year in Auburn. The owner said it was bought from a guy in Ithaca back in the nineties.
