I am surprised to say that the replacement roof panel was one of the best fitting panels I have ever worked with. Its seems like the roof should be potentially the worst but the one I received was a very impressive fit. Looks like you guys had an easy time with it too.

Steve....... you and Ed will probably finish your FB, Ed's 69 Camaro and your new 79 TA before I finish......and I started 7 years ago. I havent done anything on the FB since September after I finished up the roof, 2 floors, repaired a dented drivers rocker and fixed 4 mounting areas on my subframe. Weather has been too wet/cold/cloudy. I lose motivation until the sun comes out in the Spring. Goal is to paint the thing in the garage by end of summer.

We almost have the passenger side toe board and front floor pan cut out. Another day and I hope to have both toe boards fitted and tacked in place.

I also made a metal rear seat divider to go between the cardboard and rear seat. I do plan on installing Dynamat Extreme onto it after the metal is secured in place. I will also use the sound deadener on top of the speaker tray after I make another metal filler piece. This way if I need to remove them I can either unscrew them or grind the welds off, or drill the rivets out, haven't decided which way to secure them yet. I will be using some 6X9 speaker enclosures too.
I am looking for a cooler and quieter place to be. We are gonna mix up the ceramic spheres into a base coat of paint on the whole floor too.

Prior to welding in the passenger side Toe Board, I cleaned the lower firewall brace and then wiped clean with Picklex, sprayed Rust Encapsulator then top coated it with Chassis Black. Wherever I plug welded both panels got sprayed with SEM Copperweld.

We only need a few of the Intergrip panel clamps to hold the new panel in place. This was my first time using them and there very helpful. To make sure there are no holes in the seam we welded the bottom side too, this will make it easy to grind and blend the panel so it will look like it was never changed.

I’m glad Ed is skinny enough to fit in there.

We will grind the welds flush on top after the inner heater core housing is removed.

Just about finished the passenger side floor pan install. I had a chance to weld it in today but need more time to clean up the seams.

These pictures show the cleaned and painted area which the Toe board covers. I wire wheeled and sanded the area quickly as there was no rust, finally. I then wiped with picklex then sprayed with rust encapsulator with Chassis black over it. The other areas got sprayed with weld through primer, I guess this car won't rust from the inside out.
I also sprayed the back side of the toe board with the same weld through primer first, then taped off where no welding would be and used the same painting process as listed earlier. The only hard part was lying uncomfortably on the frame performing the welding. I did find a company online wich I thought had good pricing on the twist lock sanding discs, so more of the welds will be cleaned once they arrive.

Here is the Drivers side rear floor pan installed. I cut around the roll bar. It was an easy install and now I'll work on the passenger side rear and that should be the last panel needing to be changed.

Yes - All the welding on the floor is done, all welds ground down, my next step is to push your car out of the garage and put the Bird on the lift to spray the bottom.HAHAHAH

Well after a short summer layoff we pulled the engine out tonight to see what it needs for a freshening up. Now I can finish painting the floor and redo the Firewall. I may relocate my wiper motor inside the drivers fender.

hey i just found your thread, i have a 67 that was hit in the rear so i need a tail panel and trunk floor. i've been trying to find out if the repo tail panels include the pieces that hold the tail lights. it would be silly if they don't considering no one makes them but i haven't been able to tell from any of the pics i've seen. did your new panel have them or did you take them off your original?

Yes the new tail panel does have the tail-light mounting bracket installed.

Ive been side-tracked with work and now my brother is adding a second garage onto his house 38 DEEP X 21 Wide, so we can fit all the cars better. I think Im going with Black for the exterior color again, originally a yellow 400 4spd car. Plus black will show the quality of our metal work the best - I hope. I am still undecided on either freshening my 455 or going with an IA2 with aluminum heads. If only my 455 HO Heads got me in the nines.

We finally had some good weather to move the cars around. Special Thanks to my friend Paul and brother Ed for getting the Firebird on the lift, chopping the iced over driveway and putting the Camaro in the other garage. As Paul would say just walk through the breeze way(Colonial) to the other garage.

Now, back to finishing the undercarriage.
