Thank you all for the kind comments. I can't wait to reveal what this ole gal will look like 44 years later, flaws and all.

ICX Formula wheel looks really good. Pictures don't really do the interior justice. The interior is impeccable.

Wow, what a time capsule. I like the bird emblem on the door panels where the manual window handle would had been.

I'd like to learn more about Monk King Pontiac. I don't know why there's not a dealer badge on the car.
This car was built and shipped in November '71, but not sold until June, '72. It may be that all the options made the car pricey, and detracted from the beast mode muscle underneath. Any MK license plate surrounds out there?? LOL

Here are some links. I actually drove the T-37. A friend owned it before it went to the present owner. Very nice 72 BTW. Congratulations.

Ever since Greg came to see the survivor a few years ago I knew he would end up being the one to buy her someday. Greg was the first guy I ever met who knew more about the 70-73 TAs than I did (in fact he knew a lot more!) It takes a true expert collector to fully appreciate this car. I have been restoring a 72 TA for the past several years and having this car as a reference model has been a huge help! The restoration is just about done so the timing was right to let her go to a new caretaker, I can't think of a better one than Greg.
This car has been hidden away for a very long time! This forum is the only exposure it has had for many many years. I look forward to seeing how Greg can get this car out there for everyone to see, I can’t wait to see reactions at a show. |

RAIVJUDGE, thanks for the link. Looks like Monk really liked to equip his cars well. The '71GTO on that website is also heavily optioned.

That's why I called it an Art Conservation Project. ![]() I've never approached a car like this. It's a heck of a lot of fun. No need to worry about the scratches and dings. Her flaws are just part of the car's provenance. I started in one of the easier areas of the car. The trunk was already in great shape so after removing some mud dobbers, and cleaning her up, she presents real nice. I think this fits the definition of a DRY TRUNK:

Check out that spray pattern on the quarter - how long before that shows up on concourse cars?

The floor mat is in pretty good shape too.
Some interesting details about the original mat that I've never known before is there is rubber injection nibs on the back side. Also the part number is molded into the rubber.

O.K.,...so now I feel dumb as I did not catch on that this was an old thread made new...I get it now...very cool..some of the first things I notice comparing this 38k car to my 58k car....I believe my build date falls between NOV. 21-28 1971 (NORWOOD)..my original paint inner fenders show the same funky surface/underneath rust pattern...my front washer hose running to the tank runs off separate like this car...strangely my original fuel pump to carb. hose was also cut and a rubber hose added (perhaps that nut was so tight the original metal line was destroyed)...the vacuum modulator line I am on the fence on...my original was also cut and a rubber hose added...in the 30 year journey of my still not finished TRANS AM (I blame no internet in 1985)...I am on my 3rd and what fits and the parts book shows a small piece of hose connecting the line to the carb...so details/details...very nice car (I AM JEALOUS as a car like that 30 years ago and I would have been done!!

Starting to look things over a little closer.
KR wheels are really early dates: One is 12-29 70 Four are 12-30-70 Rear spiral shock is 193 '71 Front spiral shock still has remnants of a tag on it. Brakes have never been gone into. Front rotor is J 6 1. Rear smooth drums are both still secured with two copper hold washers on each drum. What's interesting is the rear drums have a light black paint around the outer portion of the drum, possibly to prevent rust from showing through the slots in the Rally II's.
