I've seen the uneven VIN before. The Gold engine is funky looking, not really bad, but I don't think I could live with it.

Is it possible that the center console is an original auto converted to 4-spd? the trick "block-off" black plate for a single switch is reason for honorable mention...perhaps to cover up the Cig and Roach burns
overall car looks pretty good and what is to be expected from back in the Disco Daze eh? ![]() I stopped by an took pix I'll have to load of a auto Solar Gold '78 TA parked in front of local Exoctica Car "Pimp w a Limp" shop... No price, didn't bother to enter or enquire $$$ cause would already be too high ![]() Edit: added the 5 quickpix taken. the vin is obscured by brite lite shadowing, I did verify it was a Z code TA Auto (2W87ZL187771) and DID NOT raise the hood...the scoop was original with row of small diameter holes drilled cloth interior, overall not bad looking non-Y88. The rubber piping between ABS spoilers and fenders was discolored and missing paint. Last edited by Alvin; 06-11-2015 at 02:58 PM. |

If I had the chance to buy one of two identically optioned, all original ultra low mile S/E's
One being a Y82, or Y84 the other a Y88, I would choose the black S/E only because of its unquestionable value, but if money wasn't the issue, I would take the Y88. Most would say thats silly, but like all of of us, there were cars that effected us when we were younger. One guy I knew had a beautiful Y88 & I just loved the car. The 78's just seemed like such a nicer car at the time because of the WS6, Fisher tops & deluxe interior. Today I love them all, but I am still biased & will probably always be just because of that one car 32 years ago

Y88's are just "cooler" than black S/E's......Alot of people DON't get it.......and I'm OK with that....

I'd say the dash is the least of the concerns of that interior....

I always figured it was either the way they were molded or maybe one of the screws were tightened too tight when installed. who knows but there is a bunch of them with that

I have the same dip in my dashes above the gauge pod area and have also wondered about it. I have a nice original dash (out of car) that I've been saving, and it has the same dip. So, I took a close look at it. The reason is that it is one of the locations where the dash is screwed to the dash metal panel on the body. The screw pulls it down in that spot.
