Phil, looking awesome man!! So it looks like you are going with the turquoise interior then. My 65 Catalina had a turquoise interior as well.

I'm curious why you aren't putting white walls on it though.

Could I ask you one favor? Please post a picture of the BOTTOM pan of the air cleaner that came with that 421. Does it have 3 holes or one large hole?

Hi Rick! How's everything?

I'm going with the original color all over ... Mariner Turquoise over Dark Aqua! I'll tell you why and I know it may sound crazy to some but it's VERY REAL to me.

I wanted to go black exterior and either turquoise or red or black interior. I was debating in my head what to do with the colors ... my way or original? When my friend asked me what I decided I told him I was still undecided and (while driving) it struck me like a bolt of lightening. When my Danny was about 10 yo we were going to redo his room because it was sort of done in a feminine flowery wall paper and old carpet. He would pick out the colors. He choose Turquoise carpet and Turquoise wall and Turquoise ceiling! We said "not" to the ceiling but this car had to be Turquoise over Turquoise since it was Danny's room and this is Danny's memorial car. I really felt that God gave me that memory at that moment. I know others would think I'm crazy and I'm OK with that but when I see him again I hope we can hug over it!

About the air cleaner pan. It's a tri power and in 1966 Pontiac used the triple air cleaners on all their tri powers (only the 421 has a tri power in '66 unline '65.) In '65 only the HO tri powers had the 3 air cleaners whereas the 389 tripower and 421 non-ho tripower had the single pan with 3 holes on the bottom.

I hope that helps!

Hi Rick ... just saw your question about "white walls" ... getting old.

I just like the look of the redlines better. With the 421 emblem on the fender molding having red in it and with the Turquoise paint I just think that the redlines really really set off the colors wonderfully.

Ken Nagy's car is the same color combo and it's awesome looking.

Hi Rick ... it's been a LONG year already ... 2nd worst year of my life so far ... but still trusting God in all things. I hope that He allows me to get this thing buttoned up sometime this year? Time will tell.

Post 66 Grand Prix

Phil
Car is looking awesome painted.
Assembly is time consuming, but things always seem to come together.
The amount of effort you've put into this project definitely shows.
What a wonderful tribute to your son Danny.
We can only hope that he is smiling watching all this.

God Bless.

Great Progress Phil makes me jealous i haven't done anything to the 64 in over 7 months. Time to call the upholsterer and put some time in. Won't be as pretty as yours but i will be happy just to drive it again.

My wife saw the pictures and said "You need to paint your Catalina that color".

Here it is all wet sanded, buffed, and polished. Any imperfections will be dealt with when it's all together. I'm starting to gather pieces from the basement to take to the garage to put on the car. Sue is very happy to see that! LOL

Next up. Trunk weatherstrip and bumpers, reel out trunk light, GP letters on trunk lid, polish molding for tail panel - install moldings - install rear tail panel, install quarter extensions! That should be enough for this week if I can get it done. I'm nowhere near as talented as most of you guys.
