You could be absolutely correct. Would seem that G. Govier(sic) verification would be in order, and much more documentation perhaps?

In fun have to interject the quote (below) verification of some claims and expert opinions from the "I Just Got Schooled" thread. It fits here IMO wether the Bird is Legit or not.

Well, the seller does post Galen's Chrysler Registry in the auction, but that's just his registry and not Chrysler docs, so it doesn't answer whether it's the last one built - just that it's the last one in the registry.

I'm curious about this claim: "The storyline of this car is incredible starting from the original owner that worked at a Dodge dealer, waited too long to get the order in and the owner of the dealership pulled some strings and had the line fired up to give this bird life!!"

So a dealer has the power to start/stop the entire Plymouth assembly line?

Weren't these all built in a batch to qualify for NASCAR? Seems like Plymouth would have a list of those VINS somewhere. I know Chrysler wasn't too keen on production breakdowns, but considering these cars required so much additional labor to produce, they would have a list of VINS somewhere.

...lots of controversy about this car when it was for sale a few years ago, last built and last shipped are 2 different cars I think, don't remember for sure how it was settled...all Superbirds have the same build date , 11-30-69

...my Daytona is the first one shipped in the USA, but, there is another first one built...confusing to say the least

I would like to see the paper work to as when they were building them to qualify for nascar back then they didn't have all of them built when the were taking the count so they would qualify & were running cars out the front door for the count & bringing them right back in the back door as if they were different cars. They did build them but when they did the count they only had about 3/4's of them built & some were pushed in without engines in them. Also How do we really know if it the last one without the Chrysler proof. There were a lot of these cars that were left over that they couldn't sell & they took the wings off & the noses off & turned them back into road runners & Cornets.What & how do you count them. My mother was the bookkeeper at a Chrysler/Plymouth dealer at that time & & that dealer had 3 of them as he liked high performance then & sold all 3 but 2 of them were totaled . 1 was turned over at about 135 mph as it went past my house late at night rolled over & slide up a hill for about 200 feet. The guy got a few broken bones But nothing serious. He got the 3rd one in stock. He had traded in a 67 Hemi GTX to buy it.

I think removing the wings and such is an old wive's tale. Sure, the Superbird was a tough sell (not so much the Daytona, which was based on a Charger, not a Coronet), but considering it had Coronet front fenders, it would take a lot of work to make it presentable to a customer as a proper Road Runner.

Anyway, I'm sure 694.1 will be able to set the record straight.

...the Daytona with the people sitting on the wing was originally the same F6 Bright Green w/black interior and later painted like the Hot Wheels toy Daytona, white w/red and blue stars and stripes...it was owned by my friend and neighbor ( not the people in the pix ) just a few houses down the street from me...the cars were neighbors so to speak


the one with the clothing is now in Cleveland Oh and has 26K actual miles, 200 more than when I sold it 25 years ago...the other one is still wearing the custom paint and is somewhere in Iowa, Nebraska or some state nearby
