Definitely black vinyl with Vedoro Green. Doesn't look nearly as good without it. Just MHO.

I would vote for the no vinyl route and full re-spray.
You may get an unwanted surprise however when you pull it off - rust in the rear window channel.

Either way - vinyl top or full respray - any rust will have to be repaired. No legitimate body shop would put a new vinyl top over rust.

My guess is it's going to be more expensive to go without vinyl top then to put it back on. Vinyl top install is approximately $500 and material I believe around $200. I bet additional prep to make straight for paint will exceed that, maybe a push.
Either way I vote for vinyl top.

Removing the trim for the vinyl top is pretty easy. I'd just be worried about what's underneath the vinyl itself.
7k should get you pretty damn close to a full respray, including jambs. The unknown factor here is the roof. Any competent body shop should be able to fix any rear window channel issues relatively easily, and even minor rust issues on the roof skin itself shouldn't be too hard. On my Dads 69 Camaro, he ended up having the entire car repainted after it got damaged. Granted the damage wasn't as bad as yours, but the total cost was 6k out the door, BC CC, wet sanded and buffed to perfection. That included taking the glass out, all trim removed and replaced with new stuff. It might suck right now, but your car is gonna come back looking better than ever before!

I appreciate all the input. No doubt there is rust, how bad? I'm on the fence about the vinyl roof. I've always been a fan of a black one on the 68 and up A bodies. But an all Verdoro Green GTO with Cragars and blackwall tires interests me too. More than likely I'll defer to whatever PG Collision thinks makes the most sense given what they find.

One thing about the vinyl top is that if you do away with it now, you can always add it pretty easily by reinstalling a few trim clips and studs. Not a major operation in and of itself and you can do it yourself in your garage.
On the other hand, if you put it on now, you'd better be pretty sure about it because you are NOT going to remove it once the car is finished and done. If you do, it will be back in paint prison.

If you decide to remove it, make sure you don't forget to document the location of each and every stud, with pics and measurements.

David, interested to hear what the delta is in price when you get an estimate for full respray or just the repair area. I assume the vinyl top only adds to these.

In my taste, the black vinyl top is a huge offset to a green car, and adds a stunner effect. Black tires, black top, great classy contrast to the green. A green on green car compounds the heavy green effect, so a black top really does wonders. The extra shiney trim is part of it also. Also, if sold, I think black top keeps market larger on potential buyers.

We have begun.
$1000 deposit made. Parts to be ordered. Discussion of painting the remainder of the car continued and he asked pointed questions about what I would be looking for. He said "let's get it over here" and he'd put a quote together.

Waiting on a quarter panel. The car is still in my basement versus hanging out at the body shop rusting.
At this moment I'll put the roof back on.

Sorry to hear the car was damaged. Too many people not paying attention on the roads these days.
