Sent cam to bullet today, Tim said from the pic i sent him it the marks should clear up on a polish.................lets say that might not happen, was told i could make this into something different profile, anyone done that . Bascially would like to have the power a little lower in the rpm range, usually the most i go is 5000-5500. Any thoughts on this, sounds like its about 200 to do something, so a little cheaper than buying a new roller.

That's no problem, I had a CC billet HR repaired on one lobe that a lifter went bad on. They welded and reground the lobe to make it the same as original. I wouldn't e concerned at all about them polishing it and reusing it.

Thanks AG, i wasnt too concerned about the polish job, was thinking of making it into something different, not sure what i want to make it into, just thought i would try something different. Im more concerned about the lifters, just bought them two years ago.............i cant catch a nail on any of them, think the flash makes them look worse than they are............really dont want to risk using them, but $800 down the hole just isnt right............now another $800 to get the same ones. lol......i tried using a scrotch brite pad with some WD-40 on them today, that didnt rub anything off. So i guess its new ones.

Rich, I had a roller cam I bought used back in the 70s that was very radical, I was told it came out of a Pontiac powered rail dragster from the 60s. I ran it in a 400 I built for my 65 GTO street car, 4 speed with 3.90 gears and it was too radical for the street. Eventually the engine dropped a valve, and broke a rod which contacted a cam lobe, putting a huge nick in one lobe.

The local speed shop sent the cam back to Crower and they repaired it, and reground it for a reasonable street cam as per the info I gave them. It was much better with reduced lift and duration much better suited to the street. It was a custom ground cam just for my application, and the guy at Crower that picked the specs was much more knowledgeable that me at 18 YO .............

My recommendation would be to do the same thing and make the car better suited to what you are actually using the car for. The ill mannered engine can ruin the driving experience and actually be a turn off about driving the car in traffic, etc. Race cams in street cars aren't any good unless you're racing the car a lot of the time.

That experience taught me if in doubt about picking one of 2 cams in a street car, you're usually better off to go with the smaller one, no matter what your buddies are urging you to go with the bigger cam..............
