May have finally solved a hot start issue that was driving me daffy. The motor would turn fine but would not catch when hot. After a bit it would start. Redid grounds to engine, all that.
A friend with a good PCM reader scanned the car, almost nothing but oil pressure faults (?). I have the stock gauges running so have a sender that notes pressure is fine. Then it occured to me that if the oil pressure signal to the PCM was low - it would not allow the engine to fire. If the sender was intermittently faulty when warm... So I looked at rockauto to see if anything over here would work - 2022-2023 MBG-GT would. A replacement was ordered (65€ - ouch!) and installed. A trip known to have this issue was driven and no more problems. Evidently the original sender was crap right out of the box - a depressingly common issue now. The new switch looks more "correct" - note the plug lock is actually there... Last edited by Scarebird; 06-18-2026 at 07:01 AM. |

This didnt happen today... finished up on it Sunday. Its been an ongoing winter project that spun a little out of control. Pleased with the results tho. I had the Quadrajet rebuilt after the Christmas holiday on my 70 Formula 400. Once I got it back I knew I was gonna have to refurbish the rest of the engine bay to match how nice the carb looked. So... off we went. 4 months later, after rebuilding the original alternator, water pump, & power steering pump, Plus having the original radiator re-cored she's back together. Also replaced a pretty worn timing chain. I tried to return it to as close to stock as I could. It was pretty much stock when I started. Just 56yrs & 99K miles of dirt & grim caked all over. Its not quite ready to fire yet, & I want my son-in-law here for an extra hand in case we encounter any issues. He's out of town for vacation until next week, then I have a 4 day weekend for the 4th, so it'll probably wait til after that. Hopefully she's back pounding the pavement soon! The last picture is what the engine bay looked like when it was for sale(Oct/24) & what it looks like now.

Went nuclear on the hidden headlight system last night and finally fixed the sagging headlight door.

Replaced the shocks on the 75 Bird
What difference that made , the car doesn’t push thru the corners anymore, still need to do a highway run to how it handles The front seems to sit the same. The back seems a tad higher. The ones on it were definitely shot and old. All of them are still not coming back open after 24 hours .

First time I have had the cars out in a while, been extremely busy the last 10-15 weeks. Got the General out today and dropped it off at the shop and picked up my 72 after the new motor was installed. Had to detail it to get a years worth of shop dust off of it.
Also got myself a Father’s Day present- a custom Houston license plate they came out with for my 95 Impala SS |

No actual work on the car today. I have a bad habit of not necessarily cleaning up after working on it. So that eventually leads to a big mess. So I went out and cleaned everything up and regained control of my work space. I feel better now. LOL.

Not today, but the past couple days I had some time to put a few hours into the car. Installed the 3rd set of rear springs, trying to find the "just right" height. These might be good after they settle with a full tank of fuel. Back was too low, it's almost where I want it but a hair too high. Put the rest of the accessories on and installed the compressor. Next I have to mount the condenser and install the under dash evaporator. Then I can fab up the lines and actually drive the car on a hot day. Car runs really good with the 2bbl so I'm really torn on the 4bbl intake swap. I'm going to take a couple days and think about it while I continue working on the shop, have to finish replacing ballasts and install a few LED fixtures. Need to move a couple more of my toolboxes over, and get my shelves up so I'm not overrun with inventory (aka a lot of parts for my projects).

Drove up to Santa Rosa for a big car show and cruise. Took the scenic route through Napa and Sonoma which was a great drive.
Saw this awesome '69 RAIV at the show. Everything but the Judge stripes. I didn't get a chance to talk to the owner, but apparently it was special ordered and raced back in the day.

Me too ; ) There's a real beautiful park super close to my house that during WWII was a military hospital. Super green w/ an amazing variety of trees, great place for a show and the weather was perfect. 2nd year for the show here, I'm sure it'll continue as turnout was good.
Car looks great, Ken. I'm a big fan of it .. and your boy's Javelin! That RAIV Goat is killer, is that a factory color ?? ![]()

The RAIV lists special color on the window sticker, so I'm presuming it was ordered Carousel Red. I guess the original owner didn't like the Judge decals or spoiler or preferred to put their money in the engine and rear end. I didn't look at the trim tag.

I am trying to essentially daily drive the Lemans. The hot start issue still persists.
On the way back from getting groceries in the Montijo mall I drove past this. WTF is THAT! *slams on brakes, throws into reverse and parks* It is a 1960 BMW 700 Sport Coupe, powered by a enlarged flat twin motorcycle engine. |

Spent an hour removing fully cured light gray SPI epoxy smears from the black driver's seat of my wife's Subaru.
I thought I was smart and pulled it out of the garage when spraying the quarter panel repair. A couple days later she found I had gathered primer on the back of my shorts before I proudly pulled her car back in. I can attest to both the amazing adhesion of SPI epoxy and the durability of Suby seat material. Doh! This stuff saved my butt from my butt. In the words of Bob Ross: "We don't make mistakes, just happy little accidents." Mike |
