I think that numbers right. Lighted hood ornament that we saw in a pawn/junk/resale type store the other day. Chrome was pitted. Chiefs face was intact but looked like a fried marble.

Neat looking piece.
Just curious what it went to.
Had to be for a Pontiac.

I'm pretty sure that this is a 1951 illuminated hood ornament. That one carried a part number of 514871. Generally the number that was cast on the part was one number off from the actual part number.
If you can, shoot us a picture and one of us will confirm.

Here's a couple of shots. It's in desperate need of a cleaning. A bunch of the cloudy around the pits will wipe off with your finger. Polishing 'might' make it half way presentable.
Trying to decide if I want to get it and make some kind of novelty night lite for the house.

That is indeed a 1951 illuminated ornament. Pontiac through the early fifties offered two different hood ornaments and they changed in apperance every year. Standard was a plain chrome ornament. And optional was an ornament with an amber "head". There was also a kit that included a lightbulb and wiring that hooked into the headlamp circuit that lighted the ornament when the headlamps were on.
California Pontiac Restoration offers new reproduction amber plastic inserts for this hood ornament. Kinda pricey though at $86.
