Default Script valve covers

Does anyone know where I can get a set of "Pontiac" script valve covers? What years were these available? They don't need to be perfect.

They were 1957 only.

They wouldn't do you any good if you running a Pontiac. But Canadian Pontiac sbc's also got scripted valve covers.

Here's a link to Canadian Poncho talking about these, which you might find interesting.

As a adjunct to above, some 57's came with script one side only, while others came with both valve covers scripted.

My '57 has plain valve covers, sounds to be a late build-July '57.

Canadian Pontiacs were a smaller sized Chevy body and frame and only came with a straight six or Chevy v8. Also the early Chevy engines had a staggered bolt pattern.

Funny you should mention that. 57's come three ways. Both valve covers script, only one valve cover having script, and no script. I wonder what the Bonneville cars came with?

55 and 56 cars come with Strato Streak Pontiac script on a plaque riveted to the cover. I have seen this on only one cover, and I have seen it on both sides.

What I like about all three years is the location of the breathers.

I'm surprised we never got a Tempest script and a Trophy script, depending on what year. So the only script with the engine's name would be 55 & 56 as the Strato Streak V-8.

The 1958-1960 the engine is referred to as the Tempest V-8 and
1961- probably up to 64 was the Trophy V-8. Really after 1963 the engine would not be winning any trophy because of GM's ban on Pontiac racing---Thanks GM and Ed Cole.

Just wondering, can the '57 valve covers be used on a '63 389? My neighbor's got a mostly complete '57 engine minus some brackets in his garage that he wants to get rid.

RockAuto calls out the same valve cover gasket set for both, so the bolt pattern is the same and the sealing surface is at least close enough to try.

Pontiac valve covers will swap onto any year head, the only issue is whether or not the rockers will hit them. Valve cover gaskets of various thicknesses are available and the same goes for valve cover spacers.

Pretty much any '55 -'66 valve cover will swap onto those same year range heads without any clearance issues (exception being Super Duty) , swapping these shorter earlier covers onto '67 and later heads is when you'll definitely run into interference with the rockers. The valve angle changed in '67 from 20 degrees to 14 degrees, the rocker arm design changed as well. Most low-performance heads in '67 still retained the 20 degree valve angle (all 326 and some 400), it was a transition year.

In all cases check clearance to be sure, otherwise you'll junk a good set of valve covers.
