Need Power Tapping Device
I have the need to tap several thousand wing nuts with 1/4-20 threads.
I can do it with a reversible cordless drill, but reversing is cumbersome. I have a DeWalt power screwdriver that reverses by twisting the handle, but it does not have enough power to drive the 1/4-20 tap. I also have an industrial Delta Drill Press, but the Tap-A-Matic tapping heads are well over $500. Anyone have suggestions?

Wire in a foot pedal on your drill press with a forward and reverse. We have one at work we use all the time for just what you are doing. Up to 5/8 taps.

We have a reversing tap head at work. Works great. I did a quick search. Found similar for descent price.

We have a reversing switch on our drill press also. I used it to power tap. It takes a little more finesse.

Big plus is to add 2. One forward one reverse for when you need to tap LH threads.

Get the reversing tap head. It has a clutch mechanism that allows a soft start and soft removal. I used one for years at H-O. I think mine was branded "TapMatic"

He's looking for something less expensive than the Tapmatic, since they're in the $500 range. I found a similar product (although I'm guessing it's made off shore) for $279, still not cheap but it may be worth it: https://www.amazon.com/Accusize-Indu...df_B00PWCXRVA/
