Default Price gouging?

Thought I’d see if I could get a new gas tank for my ‘66 Catalina.
Does this seem right?

$5,690.00 ! ! !

Probably made a mistake on the placement of the decimal point.

Or perhaps not.

Sometimes ebay sellers will put a stupid high price on things that are out of stock so they can just update the quantity when they have more rather than relist it.

I think that’s the key.
He probably will never get any more out of Taiwan where I believe they are made.
My ‘63 Safari tank was from Taiwan.

OPG lists one for $417. but they are out of stock. I’m sure they all come from the same place.

All sound odd to me..
The seller says he has sold 40 and has ONE left. Now I've been an importer/wholesaler all my life and him importing in 41 pieces just does not equate.

I think I'd just send him a question on price and availability to see what the reply says.

Good luck

If you look at that seller's other items, most of them appear to have normal pricing but there are a few other things marked at close to $10k - a set of headlamp bezels for a 1970 Malibu, rear quarter panel marking lights for a 1969 Firebird, and some others. As someone mentioned earlier, maybe it's just a thing they do when that part is out of stock.

Whew! I need to do a price increase!

I could always claim the decimal point on the keyboard broke!
