Angry Here we go again

Well ....
Looks like I'm pullin the engine again.....sounds like I've developed a Rod knock engine

Oil pressure is good 20-25 at idle...

Noise starts at about 2200-2300 ,,,,,
Had Torquewar listening to it with stethoscope sounds like cyl 2 or 4 reving in park...
Driving down the road starts about 55-60 MPH underload

Wont be doin this till Dec...hopefully no significant damage.......wish me luck....

I did grab a hold of the converter/flexplate and tried to see if it moves and she doesn't,,,
Doesn't hurt to double check though....thanks

Melling oil pump m54d ( 9/16 check ball shimmed spring )

Clearances sorry...bottom end was done by reputable shop recommended to me in the area known for building some pretty stout stuff

Yep....stock unit...but the noise if definetly from the pass side not drivers side frt...near the pump

Put a bar to the front pulley & check to see if you have to much end play , as it might be to much clearence in the thrust bearing causing the knock. I had an engine once that had an intermitten knock that was the thrust bearing when I got it apart.

Sounds like it is going to be a Rod-pair huh. Had a similar plight, thinking it was due to oil-starved operation during break-in while driving, and not believing the low gauge readings.

Hey Chris,

Sorry to hear that you are contemplating pulling the "devil" motor again. Before you do, check the balancer bolt torque, balancer fit on the crank nose & key-way fit, and to see if it has separated or come apart at the hub.

If you find that the rod bearings for those 2 rods do not snap in any more than you where detonating in those cylinders.

My 400 has also developed a slight knock when warm. Right hand side from what I gather. Looks like it will have to come out again. This time I will have all of the rods resized then hopefully get the 428 done and in this car.

Pulling a plug wire is a good indication, if it's a rod knock, it most of the time will go away.
