Gas Pedal Sticks at 1/8th Pedal
Hey guys, anyone ever heard of this. I have a 2000 Automatic Trans-Am. The other day when I went to drive it, the gas pedal stopped at about 1/8th throttle. At first, I thought something was under the pedal. Then I realized it was not, I pushed harder, and the pedal went further, but the engine did not accelerate anymore. So I stopped and got out. I had my brother give it some gas. The cable from the pedal goes into what looks to be the cruise control box. Then another cable goes to the throttle body. He kept jamming the gas, and finally the throttble body snapped, and the engine revved. It was like something was stuck in the cruise box connection. Now today it happened again. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this?

Check the butterfly on the throttle body.
My truck will have a sticky spot in the throttle just off idle whenever deposits build up around the butterfly and the housing around it.
Get some FI throttle body cleaner and give it a good cleaning.

Work on the outer edges of the butterfly where it meets theTB. If its bad you may have to use scotch brite and the cleaner together to get the goo off.

Ok looked into it a little further. The throttle body itself revs free if done by hand. So it must be something in the cruise control box binding up, stopping the pedal from going down.

My '99 Buick 3.8 did the same thing. A couple cans of TB cleaner did the trick.

You know, I got to thinking in my slow dim witted way, but... I've not see a cruise control system that the throttle cable connected to the cruise box. Not saying there are not those types of systems.
It's still worth looking inside the throttle body no matter what you felt working it manually.
There's probably different force applied thru the cable versus the throttle cable.

That is not a cruise box it is part of youre traction control system. Birds without traction control the cable goes straight to the tbi. ones with traction control have three cables in out of that box when you mash it and trhe tires spin that motor releases the throttle until traction is regained and that is all I know because I never saw one mess up. Yes the traction control box, I think it is. I thought it was cruise and traction control, but maybe just traction control.
