66 Tri-Power PCV Plastic Fitting
I'm thinking this is 66 Tri-Power only as the 64 and 65 Tri-Powers used the F fitting for connecting the three PCV hoses behind the center carb. This is on my Fremont built Original 66 Tri-Power car and looks to be on the 66 factory test cars in the 1960's magazines. Part number is #9784831 which is one digit off from the 4 BBL version #9784830. Anyone care to shed any light on this? Thanks.
PS - If anyone has this style for sale I would be interested. THX!!!!!! Last edited by 60sstuff; 06-13-2010 at 05:41 PM. |

Looks like it!
goatman65 - I think your pic is from an Original Red 66?? You can see in your pic that the fitting is not a (right angle) as in the earlier F fittings. It looks like the one I have. Thanks for that post!
Although the PCV G A S hose is coming off to the L.H. side, you can see the same plastic fitting on this NEW 66 test GTO. |

The original on my '66 Fremont car was cracked and fixed twice before I fashioned one out of copper tubing years ago. Never was able to find one in the early 90's.
I *think* it looks the same though I thought the one opening was a larger diameter to accept a 1/2" or 3/4" hose. But that from memory.

Calif. Smog?
Barrier Blue (Great Color) - If your 66 is a Fremont built smog Tri-Power 4 spd. car than it would have had what you described. The PCV plastic fitting on this one year/one application car had one noticeably larger nipple from the others to accommodate the large smog hose going off to the RH side as pictured below. I had several of those rare fittings years ago in my stash, but long gone now - Darn it!
If your car is what I described above and still intact please post some pics. THANKS! |

I have the single Carter AFB
When I did my car years back, I left the smog system intact...it freaks people out at the local cruises to see emissions on such an old car My fabricated fitting has 3 smaller connections and another larger one that connects to the EGR valve portion of the AIR setup. I may even have the original, but it wasn't usable any more. I'll post a pic soon, just for kicks...

That's the one
That four legged fitting (three small, and one big) was the same for both 4 bbl. and 3x2 66 Calif. Smog. Very Nice fabricated fitting!

I have seen many single AFB GTO's with the fitting shown in the OP. But, '66 Tripowers I've purchased and seen on cars, however, always have the "F" style fitting with straight, not angled tubing connecting to the manifold.
Am I missing something here, or is the angled fitting correct for all '66 Tripowers? The repros are the same as '64/'65 except larger 3/8" hose connections on the downward facing tubes.

More verification
I would be curious what style yours turns out to be if it's from an original 66 Tri-Power as I found "another" 66 GTO test car article from 44 yrs. ago (first pic) that verifies the 66 3x2's was the only model to use this fitting whereas the 66 4BBL. cars used the three nipple "V" shape fitting as did the 67's (second pic). Factory doesn't seem to be a factor either as my original 66 is Fremont built and the different test cars are non-Fremont built.

Welcome DANTIP!
Glad you have joined the PY Forums! Also very cool/rare 66 you have. Would love to see more pics of the car and more detail pics of that engine.
The first pic below is of the ultra rare one year / one application PCV plastic 4-way connector used on the 66 Tri-Power 4 spd. smog (A.I.R.) GTO's. The second pic shows all four connectors used on the various 66's. Top left = 4bbl. manual / auto smog Top right = 4bbl. manual / auto non-smog Bottom left = Tri-Power manual shift smog Bottom right = Tri-Power manual / auto non-smog |

Research
I have done plenty of research from the old Pontiac parts book to untouched survivor 66 Tri-Power cars and the 64/65's used the F connector but the 66's did not as the parts book numbers show below. I'm sure many have been changed over the years as this is a fragile plastic part subjected to heat and removal many times over.
PS - Other members have this correct OEM 66 connector such as Bill (goatman65) that is an original owner. |

More Proof!
I found a pic of goatman65 1966 Tri-Power car still wearing it's one year/one model PCV connector.
Also two different test car articles from 66 magazines clearly showing this unique connector! |

Brought back memories to me......
Our company was the very first company years ago not sure what year maybe 1982-83 without looking in an old newsletter we made the F style plastic PCV one that is pictured in post 456 the first photo. It was a good repro actually dead on exact..it was glued together and we sold it to al lthe big players back in the day. I just found it in one of my old catalogs we had it as late as 1995 the wholesale price was just $10 I had it listed as fitting the 1964-65 4-barrel and 1964-65-66 tri-power. I realize California cars where different as I recall seeing tri power based with that funky tub connected to them. This is not to imply the other formats are in correct only that we reproduced the F style and sold it across the board for all those applications. At $10 wholesale it wasn't a huge money maker. Local company made them for us. Slightly off the tropic this same catalog shows the wholesale price on our ralley I center cpas was just $38 each and this was the style that you could lock on to your wheel. A ralley I rim even the 15 by 8 size powder coated grey sfi approved made in the uSA was UNDER $100 each in 1995. I always liked the locking style ralley center cap design. sorry to stray from the topic... denniskirban@yahoo.com |

Dennis,
It sounds like it's time for you to be the leader again and make the fitting for the 66 Tri-power cars that no one else does. |
