Default Dash pad overlay - anybody ever used one of these?

Freshening up my brother's 94 Camaro. The dash top is shot. I see new dash tops for $350+. Since this is not a restoration I am looking at these molded overlays like this one from 1AAuto. $160 incl. shipping. I know these are used in older TAs as well, so I'm hoping somebody's seen one of these in action

Anybody ever used one? Any comments on fit or appearance?

Thanks,
Bob T.

Bob,

Honestly haven't seen one of these on a car yet, but Performance Years is now carrying this stuff.

LMF1160 for $95.00 + shipping.

These are just plastic molded tops that really will just cover up any cracks/wear.

Not looking for concours quality, just want something neat and smooth. Anybody ever seen one of these in use?

one thing I dont like is the defroster grille treatment on the caps.
How bad is yours(his)?
Ive seen some patch jobs covered in thin vinyl that looked good and the fabric was cut
around the defroster grille.
Another had replaced the vent slats with a mesh grille.

It's really bad. To complicate matters, he's not mechanically inclined, and we're going to do this when he's i town. I don't want to invest hours of repairs if he can invest a few $ for a simple fix.

I've seen them used on several cars before. They look OK. In fact, if they are installed with care, 99% of the people that see them wouldn't know that they were plastic. One tap of a fingernail will tell the story though.
There was a 'how to' on installing them years ago on the Year One website maybe? They installed one on a Challenger I believe.

4 gen is a completely different animal on this
Maybe some black fabric thats thin enough to allow air out the vents to fix the defroster vent uglyness.

I have a LS dash top in my 97 Trans Am and you really cant tell the difference in the color once installed

no it is a later one, it is visibly darker than the rest of the interior, but I was just saying that once installed the color differences arent that different.

IIRC mine was out of a 02

Did that. Seems that most of these are from the same manufacturer.

I bought one from this guy. Let you know how it turns out.

I installed this last weekend. Didn't think to snap a picture, but the fit and finish was very good. I didn't need to trim any.

When you pull it out of the box it's "whoa, $200 for that?" But the ease of install and nice appearance made up for it.

The dash I covered was a basket case, so the funky speaker grille shows through the hole. If I had it to do again I would look for a nice piece of speaker cloth to glue on the backside of the overlay.

All in all I recommend it.
