Question about a simple upgrade
My car is a 39,000 mile unit that Id like to keep all stock. The previous owner changed out the system so he could have duels. What I didnt know was that the pipe off the cats were not the factory 2 1/2" pipes. I don't know what the muffler was as it had no markings. I dont like the sound and changed it yesterday.
I listened to sound clips on the web with other 98 WS6's (same as mine) with different exhaust systems. I chose not to go cat back but a simple muffler swap. I went with Magnaflow. The pipe into muffler is a 2 3/4 or possible a 3" and it was reduced to 2 1/2 to fit the muffler. It has the standard 2 1/4 out the muffler.
The sound is way to quiet. I cant hear the sound at cruise and while it sounds good at throttle, it still way to quiet. Even more than the muffler I took out. Does the reduction from the pipe into the muffler make a difference? Or did I just go with the wrong muffler?
I dont want obnoxious but I do want to hear it while Im cruising at 55 mph.

I like the Borla system, what some people have done is get a Loudmouth system from SLP and swap out their muffler with different mufflers, I have seen a bunch of combos with that setup
My hands down favorite catback exhaust on a LS Trans Am though is the GMMG system

I went to the GMMG website. They sound nice. Very nice. But its so hard to tell if those cars have headers and cats which makes a big difference. What I dont want is the Loudmouth mufflers.

I wonder if you can get the baffled pipes and not the whole cat back system. I went with the muffler only to save a few bucks while I was spending the money on getting the new fuel pump put in. Ill call them. I do like that sound.

I bought them from classic chambered exhaust, they call them power sticks

I saw this video on thier website.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLl-N...eature=related
I wish when people put together sound clips, they would lift up the camera and hold it shoulder level. When you leave it on the ground, it makes the car sound louder. Who listens to exhaust with their ear laying on the ground?
This video makes the LS motor sound terrible but other cars sound really good.
Are these made by GMMG?

no the powersticks are not made by GMMG
HOWEVER they are pretty much the same design internally
seems like its pretty hard to find a video of an stock LS with powersticks

Just had to show ya this. Not sure how it will bolt up to the cat if it was customized...Our LS1 car is plenty loud enough while cruising. Nice rumble at idle too!

i did a search over on LS1tech and it appears like they are out of business and their website is a zombie
apparently another company would make these for GMMG and they would sell them
look for Madhammer

If anyone is looking for THE GMMG chambered exhaust, contact the builder at MadHammer.
His name is Gary and he builds them. He was the main supplier for GMMG a while back. He is making a system for me as we speak.
I figure i would plug the guy and let everyone in on the shortcut to buy these instead of being on waiting lists. A really cool guy that is definitely service oriented.

I had a open cut out before the muffler on my TA, kind of too loud.
I had SLP Loud Mouth on my Z28 convertible, and I liked the sound a lot.

I talked with SLP today. I sorta like the Loudmouth 2. A full catback is out of the question (budget) so my first choice of Madhammer is out at $650. More than likely Im gonna go with the LM 2 muffler only.

I liked the sound of the 3 inch SS Pypes system on my 02 but didnt like the fact that they didnt fit and hit the rear end and trunk floor occasionally.
